https://bookboundpolyglot.wordpress.com/2016/03/03/should-self-taught-language-learners-take-classes
Input Hypothesis: The Basics. Language learning for introverts. Should Self-Taught Language Learners Take Classes? If you haven’t gotten the main theme of my blog, it’s that I love learning languages on my own, mostly through reading. In fact, I love learning most things on my own. I love that resources like iTunesU. Exist because I can jump right into nearly any subject. Despite this, I’m not a product of unschooling. Deep into immersion and learning on my own. High School Spanish Classes. Unfortunately...

Input Hypothesis: The Basics. Language learning for introverts. Dutch Resources: A Masterlist. I’ve written at length in my Dutch Project Notes category about Dutch resources, but I thought it would be a good idea to compile them all in one place. It’s hard out there learning an “exotic” language 😛. More news radio. Similar to BNR, but less talk radio content at night (Netherlands time). Not sure whether they’re available in all regions…). The Harry Potter books are easy to read, and if ...If you live i...
Dealing with Plateaus as an Intermediate Learner – the book-bound polyglot
https://bookboundpolyglot.wordpress.com/2016/04/05/dealing-with-plateaus-as-an-intermediate-learner
Input Hypothesis: The Basics. Language learning for introverts. Dealing with Plateaus as an Intermediate Learner. Or are they plateaux? But when you’re in the middle of your language learning adventure, you can definitely feel lost, like nothing’s working anymore. You can feel bored and frustrated with the tools you’re using. You might even feel a little burned-out. Ah, the learning plateau. But don’t fret! I honestly think every language learner experiences one or more plateaus during their studies.

JRR Tolkien on Learning Languages – the book-bound polyglot
https://bookboundpolyglot.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/jrr-tolkien-on-learning-languages
Input Hypothesis: The Basics. Language learning for introverts. JRR Tolkien on Learning Languages. I’m a huge Tolkien fan, and it’s not just because of his fiction. There’s no doubt that JRR Tolkien was a true language lover. While he is most famous for writing The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, those stories grew out of his avid construction of new languages, like Quenya and Sindarin. Tolkien was also a philologist at Oxford, and he knew a good number of real-life languages himself. He didn’t m...

Two Writers. One Dream. Monday, September 20, 2010. Music and Writing and You. So I’m basically the antithesis of Nora when it comes to writing with music. I can’t do it. The lyrics screw with my head and seep into my prose, and if I’m writing to classical music or a scored soundtrack, the big moments invariably come at the wrong time and I have to replay certain parts and it just slows down my whole momentum. That having been said, though, music is one of the most integral parts of my writing process.
