A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Saturday, October 23, 2010. I was reading the blog of a friend from high school and she recommended this book. She was an English major, so I thought, she must know what she's talking about. Especially when you didn't know what you were fighting for? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Nancy's Reading Corner: A couple favorites from the past couple weeks
http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-couple-favorites-from-past-couple.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Monday, January 28, 2013. A couple favorites from the past couple weeks. This first book I think Jack has made us read to him every night since we got it. I have to admit that the illustrations are amazing! The book, Block City. By Robert Louis Stevenson is actually a poem. Do you recognize the author's name? He wrote Treasure Island. The second book I am not so fond of, but Jack loves. Maybe it's because his name is in the title? All the bo...

Nancy's Reading Corner: November 2010
http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Wednesday, November 10, 2010. My mom gave me this book to read. She bought it at a shop in Cabo San Lucas when she was down there in May. I had never heard of it, or the author, Tracy Chevalier. She told me it wasn't the best book in the world, but an enjoyable read. I agree with her. I enjoyed the setting immensely. The author did a great job creating imagery throughout the book. The idea of being a part of cutting edge science as a...Rusty...

http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Monday, July 12, 2010. WARNING: Do not pick this book up unless you have nothing to do for a couple days! The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, is a book set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962. The author herself grew up in Jackson, so she had some personal background with the material. This is her debut novel and I can't wait to see what she writes next. She was a fabulous writer. It was so refreshing to read something so well written! Mutant Message...

Nancy's Reading Corner: March 2010
http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Sunday, March 7, 2010. Proust Was A Neuroscientist. This is one of the books that I didn't finish. (Sorry Ellen! I really meant to, but this was during the time we were packing up our house, finding renters, etc. etc. It was a very interesting book, but I just couldn't finish it. Or you could say, I guess I'm just not the more educated type. Anyway, it really was an interesting book that pointed out interesting ideas. View my complete profile.

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Monday, January 28, 2013. I don't want to assume anything about the people who might be looking for book suggestions for their kids, so I'm including these 2 books. If you haven't heard of them, you might live in a bubble, but you should definitely know about them! If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. And If You Give a Cat a Cupcake. Another very popular series is Fancy Nancy. A couple favorites from the past couple weeks. The book, Block City.

Nancy's Reading Corner: April 2010
http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Sunday, April 18, 2010. I finished this book ages ago, but never got around to writing about it. I guess I'm better at keeping up my other blog than this one. Anyway, I think it served as the perfect ending to her journey because she had found herself and peace before she met a man and fell in love with him. It's my opinion that love works out so much better when you can love yourself first and then give love to the other. Memoirs of A Geisha.

Nancy's Reading Corner: August 2010
http://nancypitney.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Saturday, August 21, 2010. It's a really quick read. I don't know much about the author, but I know in the preface she said she tried to make the book as accurate as she could with a historical fiction. That may be true, but I found her talent pretty lacking. There were some major cheesy parts in the book and the end was the worst ending I think I have ever read. I was really disappointed.
