Review Policy – Book stacker

https://bookstacker1.wordpress.com/review-policy

I will be mostly reading and reviewing books that I already own or ones that I borrowed (nicked) from family or friends. However, I am open to requests. The genres I enjoy the most are women’s fiction, historical fiction, contemporary fiction, and literary fiction. I occasionally read crime and fantasy. I read for enjoyment, and my views are my own and entirely subjective. Follow Book stacker on WordPress.com. Follow Blog via Email. Join 56 other followers. Books that deal with difficult topics.

Review: Hunting Season by Andrea Camilleri – Book stacker

https://bookstacker1.wordpress.com/2016/07/14/review-hunting-season-by-andrea-camilleri

Review: Hunting Season by Andrea Camilleri. July 14, 2016. 8220;Sicily, 1880. When a stranger arrives in Vigàta, the town’s inhabitants immediately become unsettled. It seems the young man, Fofo, is the son of a local peasant legendary for his home-grown medicines; a man who was murdered many years before. I can happily read a book with no female characters, however I can’t say I enjoyed the tone of this novel. I’m not sure whether Camilleri thought it an amusing exaggeration of the misog...It’s no...

Review: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. May 11, 2016. July 14, 2016. 8220;New York Times bestseller about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II. 8220;The brain is locked in total darkness of course, children, says the voice. It floats in a clear liquid inside the skull, never in the light. And yet the world it constructs in the mind is full of light. It brims with color and movement....Whenever I fi...

Review: Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant. July 3, 2016. July 14, 2016. 8220;The year is 1570, and in the convent of Santa Caterina, in the Italian city of Ferrara, noblewomen find space to pursue their lives under God’s protection. But any community, however smoothly run, suffers tremors when it takes in someone by force. And the arrival of Santa Caterina’s new novice sets in motion a chain of events that will shake the convent to its core. The Birth of Venus. Sarah Dunant’s descriptions are sensorily...

Review: Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov – Book stacker

https://bookstacker1.wordpress.com/2016/06/12/review-lolita-by-vladimir-nabakov

Review: Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov. June 12, 2016. July 14, 2016. 8220;This was an orphan. This was a lone child, an absolute waif, with whom a heavy limbed, foul-smelling adult had had strenuous intercourse three times that very morning”. I think after re-reading that quote, I have to wonder if whoever wrote the above synopsis on Goodreads read the same book! It is a gorgeously written book, and the language incredibly rich. It’s brilliant, complex and extremely readable. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Book stacks and Coffee beans. I love the way this city got intertwined with each and every breath of my existence and how I, have started loving every element of what she offers. Did you know this city had a smell for when it rains? No, not what you call “petrichor”, not exactly that, but a different. I remember when I was young and free and conceived the world to be a happy place, my favourite season was Monsoon. And why not? In between daily survival strategies, brick-walled lanes and fungus-infected h...
