Book Review: The Silent Wife | BookWormMum
https://bookwormmum.wordpress.com/2014/03/25/book-review-the-silent-wife
An occasional book-ish blog. Books read in 2011. A Poem: Resolution 2014. A New Challenge →. Book Review: The Silent Wife. Is this new addition to the wife-lit/misery-marriage canon worth the hype? With a similarly dark cover, enticing cover quotes and rave reviews, one cannot avoid comparison with Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Told in alternating chapters, the tension builds slowly. In fact, the cover ‘blub’ evokes a particular expectation which, in the end, is much more subtle. A Poem: Resolution 2014.

An occasional book-ish blog. Books read in 2011. I'm currently an at-home-mum in her thirties in her adopted home of the North-East of England. I'm certainly not a housewife (I'm not very good at it although I try my best) but I am an avid bookworm. I'd usually rather be reading! I'm hoping this blog will reflect some of my reading and book-ish thoughts. Well, hello again virtual world! However, I am not about to challenge myself to another book experiment or limit. So, are you along for the ride? Todd a...

An occasional book-ish blog. Books read in 2011. Two Weeks: No Books. Book Review: The Silent Wife →. A Poem: Resolution 2014. A slightly tongue-in-cheek poem inspired by my New Year’s Resolution:. The books flow about. The house, with a shout,. My husband exclaims,. To have a house free of clutter. You buy books, ‘stead of butter. This worries me greatly,. The bookcases are weighty. They might topple and fall. They’ll crush us all! Why do you buy so many books? Don’t you know how it looks? You are comme...

Hello ladies and gentleman, today’s blog update will be a book review on an English novel titled Hated-Really? Written by deepsea15. I have spent an estimate of two weeks to finish reading this novel. It actually belongs to the romance category with the main characters based in a campus background. There will be a total of 40 chapters with around 30 pages in each chapter. 🙂. The main obstacles will be their family history. Both their families happened to have a feud in their past history many genera...

BookWormMum | An occasional book-ish blog
An occasional book-ish blog. Books read in 2011. Review: The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar. Most definitely a grown up story and all the better for it. While reading it, I was reminded of Georgette Heyer’s Regency London, but one which shows more of the shaved, itching head under the powdered wig. Set in London and its environs from 1785, it’s a tale of mermaids and courtesans, fortune and poverty, love and lust. Just a thought…). Another mermaid is found, and the story becomes a little ...

Friday, July 19, 2013. Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl. This book started out slow and I got lost in all the characters but it eventually picked up and I could not put it down. I just finished it this morning and secretly read it at my desk when I was waiting for my computer to turn on. It reminded me of a few things. I read this quote 144 pages in and after finishing the book I realize it was clearly foreshadowing. I recommend this book also because the writing is quite unique. P...
