Biennials | Boonie Adjacent
http://boonieadjacent.com/2015/04/15/biennials
April 15, 2015. Mdash; Leave a comment. Biennials are crops that take two years to reproduce. Which means you need to exercise a bit of fore-thought and planning when it comes to growing your own seeds for things like cabbage, carrots, and onions. The key to seed production in the second year is vernalization: a period of cold temperatures that will prompt flower development. In the natural cycle of things, this period of cold is technically called. First, we can be certain that the crops will be safe an...

April 1, 2015. Mdash; 1 Comment. Flour, corn meal, salt, and black pepper. Today was my last day in training as an intern with the Bredi Masters over at Small World. A good day to make one final round of bread, to see what I’ve learned. Let’s make a loaf of sour dough. The starter will need to rise for about twelve hours, says Rachel. Overnight. Crap So let’s make a loaf of… something else. I’ve been wanting to retest the recipe for our farmhouse maize, says Nathan. More, says Rachel. Done: yeast, water ...

March 24, 2015. Mdash; Leave a comment. First day back at the farm. First day back in the soil. It was a full day in the hoop house. Spinach and kale have been growing all winter, becoming bigger, bolder and more lush than we anticipated. But so had the weeds. Everything is tossed into a yellow bin. To be tossed into salads and scrambled eggs and other savory dishes at some later time. These plants still have purpose. It is the perfect task. This entry was posted in Finding Fruition. Plant Swapping | Woodys Rocky Ridge
https://woodysrockyridge.wordpress.com/2015/04/24/plant-swapping
April 24, 2015 at 5:02 AM ( Uncategorized. We had our annual Plant Swap here Saturday afternoon. It’s a fun way to thin out your perennial beds, cull your seed starts and pick up some new starts of plants that you might not have. Mostly it is an excuse to get together with some old friends and meet some new ones, catch up with what’s going on in the county and sit and tell lies. April 24, 2015 at 3:15 PM. That is an excellent idea! I need to arrange something like that up here. April 26, 2015 at 5:37 AM.

May 27, 2015 at 7:11 AM ( Uncategorized. Nearing the end of May we have almost everything in the ground we intended. The last few days we’ve had a pattern of rain that prevented me from doing anymore tilling, but I was able to sneak in and get a patch done for our sweet corn. I still need to plant our sweet potato rings and some of our squash. Theresa has been freezing, drying and jamming a mess of strawberries the last couple of days. Many more berries to go. May 27, 2015 at 7:18 AM. It all looks great!

Fruition Seeds | Edible Finger Lakes | Edible Finger Lakes

Posted by Edible Voices. On Thursday, August 6, 2015. Story and photos by Matt Kelly. There are plenty of great reasons to be into local food: economic, environmental, political. But there’s one that trumps them all: Taste. This is why so many of us grow our own. Backyard, front yard, pots and window boxes: it doesn’t matter where you grow. There’s just no beating fresh-picked taste. But the question is: how local are your seeds? Do you get them from, say, a seed farm right here in the Finger Lakes?

Welcome to the Boonies, little out of the way places and beads along the way. I am going to use this space to talk about the fine art of finding and then relocating beads. Sounds a bit ridiculous when you think of all the things going on in this world - I'm sure - but they need to find new homes somewhere, rather than bouncing around the USA with me and Steve. How to make a great portable beading dish. We are going camping this summer and I AM TAKING MY BEADS WITH ME! Press into lid, glued sides together.
