Monday, March 11, 2013. I recently input my collection of records on discogs ( see my list here. To find that i have 246 records that are in the discogs database, and about 10 that aren't. The discogs database is real easy, each recording has a alphanumeric identifier making the lookup process real fast. doing this made me want to digitize even more. Without trying my own diy project first. I came across a label saver idea called groovmaster. I cut the handles off and drilled holes for the threads. I was...

The next step is to make and mount the doors. we do this before hanging the shelves since the hinge of the door may interfere with the shelves at mounting points, so with the doors hung first the shelves will be safely installed minimizing chances for screw ups. Here the piece is where it will be forever, do you see it?

Monday, February 17, 2014. Live edge trestle table part 10. So I poured more epoxy, then sanded it off only to find that the epoxy wasn't perfect. Those pesky bubbles created holes, holes, and more holes! As the epoxy would slowly seep into the cracks, and continually get harder and harder, bubbles would form and freeze before reaching the top. Then when I'd sand down the epoxy and sand right through a bubble leaving a bubble hole. Dad got some belt sanding action as well. Pouring epoxy is not only hard ...

Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Spreadsheets and working out. At the beginning of 2011 i started tracking the number of days that i worked out in a spreadsheet. i also held a strict regimen of recording my weight on sundays. i'd record my weight before eating lunch, usually before my shower, so that i could eliminate any weight variances that occur between the different hours of the day. So far i've worked out 119 days this year. today is the 340th day of the year. I've cycled through different workouts thi...

Monday, January 14, 2013. Live edge trestle table part 3. With a bit of imagination i can start to see how this table top wil finish out. the cracks will be epoxy filled and the finish will make all of those beautiful grains and colors pop out at you. Before filling the cracks with epoxy, we had to seal the bottom of the cracks. if we didn't, then the epoxy go in one side and out the other. to seal the cracks we mixed wood shavings from the grinding and planing process with some wood glue. Friday, September 21, 2012. Bike seat theft is a reality, and it's the biggest b*tch when it happens. i learned in grade school what's grosser than gross? Jumping off the empire state building and landing on a bike with no seat! Nostalgia or memory tactic to leash your bike seat. you make the call. I have seen some diy seat leashes made from old bike chain. here's the ugliest one i've ever seen. Here's one with the chain hidden inside a used innertube held together with zip ties. I am aware that there is...

Friday, April 5, 2013. My first cell phone. Recently it was the cell phone's 40th birthday, as featured on gizmodo. This made me wonder back to my very first cell phone. i was working at a rotisserie chicken fast food joint that may have been associated with a grey haired country singer. It was my senior year of highschool and sprint pcs was just coming out with their sprint pcs pioneer plan. So if you use the phone 1 minute for the month, your bill is $0.35! Fast forward through my cell phone life and y...

Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Live edge trestle table part 8. A major part of this job was the epoxy. In fact, most of the hours logged on this project can be attributed to epoxy. for those that don't know, epoxy is two liquids, when mixed they slowly cure into a solid. I decided to use a piece of chinese elm for a test piece of epoxy filling. My end goal is to fill each and every crack, crater, and hole with epoxy so that the table top is smooth and crack free. Friday, February 21, 2014. Live edge trestle table part 12. And now folks, the moment that I've been waiting for. The finishing! I sanded this table top first at 80grit with the belt sander, then 120 then 180, then 220, then 320, then 400, and finally 600 grit! Let me say now that this table top is smoother than a baby's butt. Here's a shot of a crack and the swimming pool, these should blend in far more once the finish is applied. Closer pic of the holes where the hardware holds everything together.

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. The gift giving secret. There's a technique to giving gifts, and i'm not talking about those 'just because' gifts. you have been there, it's so-and-so's birthday, christmas, anniversary, etc. and your window of time is now or never to get a gift. the only problem is that you have no idea what to give this person. So let's recap here. 1) list what the gift recipient is into. 2) list out things you are interested in, that is not on list one. Now there will be a time when this techniq...
