Monday, 28 September 2009. The rooms hairdryer went up in flames when I switched it on, an event which might have suggested to the superstitious that it wasn't going to be my day. I took it as an auspicious omen that it didn't trigger the fire alarm and a full-scale evacuation. A hasty breakfast of porridge and cereal (plus vitamins, neurofen, ginseng, ginko, cod liver oil and immodium) interspersed. With five trips to the bathroom and we were off. Monday, 21 September 2009. It took us just over 6 hours to reach Lincoln and the journey was a little like going on a foreign holiday. We started out on a dull, dreich, autumn morning and arrived on a sunny summer afternoon. It was glorious. Jo came over all smug because she'd brought shorts. Lots to think about. Thursday, 3 September 2009. Eighteen days to go. Wednesday was another a busy day at work, one of the back-to-back meeting days which allow no time to gather your thoughts. I was therefore feeling quite cheerful about the lack of training scheduled for the night and envisaged a gentle evenings pottering, twittering and blogging. Alas this was not to be. I'd messed up, completely forgotten I had a trip south the following day which meant I wouldn't be back until too late to train. I redeemed myself by man...

Monday, 28 September 2009. I have this mental snapshot of a busy parking area filled with bright warm sunshine, lots of activity happening around me and a fuzzy buzzing in my head. Not much else registered. We went for a shower and, still rather muzzy, tucked in to some of the picnic Kath and Tony had brought with them - cold chicken, potato salad, home grown tomatoes - perfect post marathon food. Boston Marathon at 40. My Quest for the Holy Trail. Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Canton Fall Classic, October 31st, 2010. I forgot all my electronic gadgets! So I had no idea my pace or distance while I was running. I was fighting a cold, so I was not feeling my best. I just enjoyed the run and didn't push the pace. This race was a Personal Record (PR) at 46:25. A Long Way in 18 months. This is actually only my second 10K ever! Monday, October 25, 2010. It's been a week since the marathon. I feel great!
