http://sandrawebster.blogspot.com/2015/08/welcome-back-to-new-school-year.html
Tuesday, 18 August 2015. Welcome back to the new school year! It feels great to be back at school and to be surrounded by the energy, 'zing' and excitement that a new school year brings. While holidays are wonderful, I wonder how many of us longed for the routine of school to begin again? So how much sleep do our children need? The National Sleep Foundation (http:/ sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/children-and-sleep) say that children between the ages of six to 13 need a solid 9-11 hours of sleep, wi...

Principal's Blog: Lights..camera...action!
http://sandrawebster.blogspot.com/2015/04/lightscameraaction.html
Wednesday, 22 April 2015. Action' has become an increasingly important part of what our students learn and what we include in our curriculum. As a school we have always included some form of action in our Units of Inquiry (UoI) that every student learns from. As we have grown in our understanding of what action means for our students, we have realised two really important things:. It needs to be meaningful. It needs to be sustainable. We consider action to be important because it:. Next year, we have a c...

Friday, 20 March 2015. Is it ok to give direct instruction to our students? Our framework for instruction is the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP contains five essential elements for learning:. Each of these elements work together to make a well rounded curriculum for our students. We do not just attend to their knowledge, but also to other important facets of learning. Below are the results, which I found simply amazing! Friday, 6 March 2015. Living our mission and vision. Our mission and vision s...

Principal's Blog: November 2014
http://sandrawebster.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 25 November 2014. What does 'parent partnership' REALLY mean? I have been thinking a lot lately about the idea of 'parent partnership' and what it really means. It is a term I use often and the idea of partnership with parents is fundamental to my philosophy of leading a school. One of the most critical components of partnership in my view is trust. Bryk and Schneider (2003) suggests that there are four components to trust:. Competence in core role responsibilities. However, the same applies to ...

Principal's Blog: The value of play...again!
http://sandrawebster.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-value-of-playagain.html
Wednesday, 3 June 2015. The value of play.again! I have written about the value of play before, in fact at around the same time last year! With the long Summer break, I think that it is a topic worth revisiting. At Bradbury, we have continued to explore how this approach, which is fundamental to our philosophy of a constructivist approach to learning; enhances learning for all of our students. Einstein has said that 'play is the highest form of research' and we would certainly concur! This type of play p...

Wednesday, 6 May 2015. Supporting all members of our school community to make a difference. This means that Aunties may be the person who listens to the child read at night and helps them navigate the very complex task of learning to read or developing further skills in reading. We recognise the very real and important place that helpers play in this process and for the last few years, have taken steps to support them in this process. So the workshops went ahead.and what a huge success they have been!
