Brophy's Law Blog: SAME-SEX MARRIAGE AND EQUALITY OF RIGHTS
http://brophysolicitors.blogspot.com/2013/08/same-sex-marriage-and-equality-of-rights.html
Friday, August 16, 2013. SAME-SEX MARRIAGE AND EQUALITY OF RIGHTS. Our challenge is being brought against a backdrop of increasingly progressive legal developments in Europe. However, outside Europe, there has been a notable increase in discrimination and discriminatory legislation curbing the rights of LGBT people. These regressive developments are however in sharp contrast to progressive developments in Europe and the Americans. The number of European countries legalising same-sex marriage continues to...

Thursday, March 27, 2014. SAME SEX MARRIAGE – DOES THIS MAKE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE? I would like to share with you the following short video. It does what all really powerful message are all about. It’s short, it absolutely gets its message across and it really make you stop and think. I hope you enjoy it. Sunday, March 23, 2014. I received instructions yesterday from a client whose story reads like something from a particularly gruesome John Grisham novel. The only thing I want to emphasise in this not...

Kevin's Blog: NO MORE GIFTS
http://brophysolicitorsfamilylaw.blogspot.com/2014/11/no-more-gifts.html
Wednesday, November 19, 2014. At the moment if a parent wants to make a gift to a child or provide for them if they are in difficulties, they can do so because the threshold before tax has to be paid is at the moment €224,000. For instance where a couple are engaged and they are going to a buy a house together, it’s not unusual for parents to help with the funding of a deposit on a new house or to help pay off student loans or provide other financial help. Kevin's Blog: June 2014
http://brophysolicitorsfamilylaw.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 26, 2014. Many people believe that solicitors are reluctant to sue their colleagues and that even if they are able to get another solicitor to consider taking an action against one of their colleagues, they would want to ensure that their full fees are paid to the other solicitor. Make sure you receive a comprehensive section 68 letter concerning the fees you are likely to have to pay to your solicitor when the case starts. Make sure your solicitor agrees to send you copies of all relevant...

Thursday, August 28, 2014. IS YOUR SOLICITOR COMPETENT? When you employ a solicitor, you are entitled to expect a reasonable standard of care. That standard is accepted to be the standard “expected of a reasonably competent solicitor”. Your solicitor has to be open, frank and honest with you and to the best of his/her professional ability, must carry out your instructions. Always remember, you are the employer. You are paying the wages. You call the tune. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE.

Brophy's Law Blog: ACCESS – AN INSTRUMENT USED FOR REVENGE
http://brophysolicitors.blogspot.com/2015/01/access-instrument-used-for-revenge.html
Thursday, January 22, 2015. ACCESS – AN INSTRUMENT USED FOR REVENGE. I attended the District Court recently with my client, a father of two young girls. My client admitted to his wife that he had been having an affair for the last two months, bringing their 6 year marriage to an end. My client was distraught and understandably so was his wife. She had never suspected that her husband was cheating; in fact she had assumed that everything was going well between them. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Kevin's Blog: EMOTIONAL ABUSE IN FAMILY LAW CASES
http://brophysolicitorsfamilylaw.blogspot.com/2014/11/emotional-abuse-in-family-law-cases.html
Friday, November 28, 2014. EMOTIONAL ABUSE IN FAMILY LAW CASES. I recently spoke to a child psychologist who said that he was very concerned at the growing number of cases he deals with involving what he described as severe cases of emotional abuse. I would be very happy to act for a guardian on behalf of a child to take an action against a parent who has inflicted such emotional damage on that child. I would be very happy to see legislation that introduced a criminal offence of deliberately causing ...
