Bruce family in Provence. A journal of spring and summer in southern France. Life on the Coast. After 4 months in the Provincial countryside, we made our way down to the Cote D’Azur, just outside of St. Raphael. We stayed in a small townhouse about 5 minutes up from the beach with a big pool, gorgeous gardens and tennis courts. Every morning Natalia would walk across the property to buy our fresh bread and pain au chocolats from the local baker’s truck. Easton having fun at the local amusement park.

After about a month of rolling along the flats and moderate climbs, I finally felt it was time to make a run for the top of Mont Ventoux. Ventoux is the highest summit in the Provence region and is rich in cycling history. It is a seven time stop on the Tour de France, most recently as the finish line in 2009 http:/ www.letour.fr/2009/TDF/COURSE/us/2000/etape par etape.html. Total Distance: 23km 11km. Vertical: 1,800m 690m.

Bruce family in Provence. A journal of spring and summer in southern France. Roughly 30 minutes by car from Caromb is the town of Gordes. Gordes is a small picturesque town located on a cliff on the Plateau de Vaucluse. Gordes is classed as on of the Plus Beaux Villages de Frances. Most of my riding to date has been “base miles” to train for the Transalps race I am doing June 26th to July 2nd. It’s a 7 day road bike stage race through the Alps from southern Germany to Northern Italy. We will cover about 130km of riding on average per day and a total of 20,000 meters of climbing! The race took place between June 26. Starting in Sonthoven Germany and ending near the shores of Lake Garda in Italy. The course covers 920 km over 7 days through the German, Austrian and Italian Alps. Total climbing is just under 20,000 meters equal to climbing up Cypress from the highway about 34 times.
