sacrevert: October 2014
http://sacrevert.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Being thoughts and incidents of a (mostly) botanical nature. Friday, 3 October 2014. England's new Red List of Vascular Plants. It seems to be an incredibly productive season for botanical publishing. A new bryophyte atlas. On the way; fliers for a reprint of the BSBI handbook Docks and Knotweeds. And for books on Yorkshire's Hawkweeds. But one of the most exciting publications has been that of the new Vascular Plant Red List for England. Shows that 5th of wildflower species now threatened @BSBIbotany.

sacrevert: February 2013

Being thoughts and incidents of a (mostly) botanical nature. Tuesday, 12 February 2013. Creating masked vice-county rasters in Quantum GIS. I was inspired by Teresa Frost. There are no doubt easier ways of achieving what follows, but this is what worked for me. Firstly, I retrieved the Land-Form PANORAMA. Data from the Ordnance Survey's new(ish) OpenData. Website, and the Watsonian vice-county boundaries from the NBN. Was handy for that. 2) Visualising the DTM data is also a minor challenge, and can be o...

Wild Life: Rhizocarpon geographicum - Map Lichen
http://lifewildaroundus.blogspot.com/2016/02/rhizocarpon-geographicum-map-lichen.html
A daily look at what's living around us. Thursday, February 18, 2016. Rhizocarpon geographicum - Map Lichen. In the middle was a day of peace and an opportunity to walk upwards. We set our eyes on Ben Hope, the northernmost Munro and an easier walk than the lower, but more imposing, Ben Loyal. We returned to Tongue via Altnaharra on the longest single-track road segments devoid of passing places that I've ever been on. Quite what we'd have done had we encountered on-coming traffic I don't know. This one ...

Being thoughts and incidents of a (mostly) botanical nature. Friday, 14 June 2013. Urban Trees of Sheffield - An interactive tour. But let it be remembered, that the principles of a science are to be taught as truly with. Reference to the commonest forms as to the rarest. And have we not the fields and the rivers? But besides this, is not the whole suburb. One magnificient botanic garden? John Lindley, in his Inaugural Address as Professor of Botany in London University, 1827. In a larger map. Another ni...

FloralImages Brecon: Where Rivers Join
http://floralimages.blogspot.com/2015/08/where-rivers-join.html
John Crellin's blog. Now mainly about botanical recording in Brecknockshire. Saturday, August 01, 2015. This is where the Elan (left) flows into the Wye; the Elan, of course, lacking the water taken for water supplies in England and Wales. It is right in the 1km square I have chosen to focus on in that area so on Thursday we set off from a parking spot near the picture. Bird's-foot Troed yr aderyn Ornithopus perpusillus. Beech Fern, Rhedynen gorniog or Phegopteris connectilis. We finished off our day by ...
