Just another WordPress.com site. The typical guitar amp tube takes 6.3 V supply on the heaters. Transformers will typically supply a dedicated secondary winding that gives 6.3 V AC. Often this has a center tap as well, in order to reference the AC and to ensure balance. It is also important to wire the tube heaters from most current to least current. Just another WordPress.com site. A quick post about parts choices. I have decided to follow through with the KT77 tubes. I plan on using the ubiquitous 12AX7 for the preamp, probably two of them. I have played it out a few times, and its doing exactly what I want — big clean sounds on the verge of breaking up. I did end up adding in a global negative feedback to keep it a little cleaner. On top of that the Hammond output transformer has a confusing secondary wiring that is comically difficult to wire to a switch.

The input circuit will probably cut out the two different inputs, so it will be simplified. The first stage will not use the voltage divider in the plate load.
