Thursday, November 10, 2005. WATRAS' QUESTION ON THE OBOE AND ENGLISH HORN. Mr Watras does not like the definition that Hayley Iben gives because it does not say that a woodwind has a complex airstream. One of the first ancestors of the English horn was the Shawm. The English horn was not originally created in England, it was created by the Hotteterre. The English horn is longer than the Oboe and makes a deeper sound and lower pitched than the Oboe.
