Here, there, and everywhere. Thursday, July 10, 2008. Sailing on Elliott Bay. Taken from the pier-our boat. A passenger waiting to board. The mainsail as they put it up. The camera is straight, but the boat is not! A shot of Mt. Rainier in the background. You can pay $25/adult and ride this sailboat for 90 minutes. Perfect weather to be out on the water! In the Shadows of the Pyramids: February 2011

http://maryamsblog.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

In the Shadows of the Pyramids. Wednesday, February 02, 2011. Egyptians have never felt so empowered in all their lives. When the police quit on Friday, the people took it upon themselves to form neighborhood watch groups, clean up the trash, help each other out. I have been living in Egypt for nearly 6 years now and have never seen people come together as they have in the past week. More to follow soon. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). http://maryamsblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-photography-obsession.html

In the Shadows of the Pyramids. Sunday, May 23, 2010. Ever since my wonderful husband bought me a professional digital camera, I have been shooting photos everywhere we go. I have been thinking about how best to display the photos: Facebook, Flickr, my blog. I have decided to use Flickr for the most part, but post some here as well. My personal photos are on Facebook mainly to share with my family and friends in the US. Here are some of my favorite photos. Philae Temple, Aswan, Egypt. Karnak, Luxor, Egypt.

In the Shadows of the Pyramids: November 2008

http://maryamsblog.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

In the Shadows of the Pyramids. Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Sometimes it's ok to be sick. I think being sick is a sign of weakness. I haven't been sick in four years and all of a sudden, bam! I returned to work 1 1 2/ months ago and here I have been sick for two days with the flu. I hate this; why me, why now? I'm not particularly stressed more than usual. Although I have to admit I have many things on my mind - but who doesn't. So yes I have my own stressors that mostly likely contributed to making me...

http://maryamsblog.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

In the Shadows of the Pyramids. Friday, July 16, 2010. Summer Days and Summer Nights. Life in Alexandria, Egypt is much different than Cairo life. The people are different, the food flavors are different, the weather is different. Because of the way the streets are laid out in Alexandria, you can be at the sea within a matter of minutes depending upon traffic of course. I have been overdosing on fresh figs from the North Coast while Mira has been overdosing on the 57 varieties of mangoes.

In the Shadows of the Pyramids. Saturday, November 21, 2009. The Essential Egyptian Breakfast. It was Friday morning and Manal arrived on time at 10 am As she was cleaning the kitchen, Mira was still sleeping and Hassan and I were watching TV wondering how we were going to make our way to the kitchen to make some fuul (fava beans). Not ten minutes later, Manal walked in with a tray of food, without us even asking her to make us anything. Links to this post. Saturday, November 14, 2009. Just as there are ...

The Cairo Gang

Dublin Metropolitan Police Incident Report. Was supposed to be a group of British Intelligence agents in Dublin during the Irish War of Independence with a brief to conduct intelligence operations against members of the Irish Republican Army. Originally I had substantial doubt in my own mind as to whether this reference to a Cairo Gang is to a central group of Intelligence officers operating out of Dublin Castle, or more probably to the intelligence unit run by F Coy of the Auxiliaries. Cairo Garden

I have tried planting vegetables in my balcony in Egypt and guess what! Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Aubergine in my Balcony. Aubergines are growing after a long wait. They look great but I think I'll give them some time to grow. I keep harvesting chilli (Apache) and okra every week. They have been a truly great success. I've also harvested the last tomatoes from the oldest tomato plant, they didn't grow red, but they tasted lovely with their orange colour. Saturday, July 25, 2015. Okra and the big success.
