The Language of Weaving. Wet cloth, colour and form. I have been trying and failing to get a picture that would show you the rust weft pattern on the loom. Here is the best I could muster:. Perhaps you can see the outline of interlocking rectangles, or perhaps not. Anyway, I cut off both scarves and washed them yesterday and *bing! The pattern sprang to life. Here is the same cloth, lifted dripping from the sink for a photo:. From the library is. 8220; wet cloth, colour and form. 8221; was posted by Cally.
liftplan trauma | t'katch
https://callybooker.wordpress.com/2010/09/28/liftplan-trauma
The Language of Weaving. I have to remind myself that I am still relatively new to the dobby loom and designing liftplans. I have to remind myself of this to prevent outbreaks of frustrated screaming, but I don’t always do it in time…. Yesterday I had a day off work and I thought I would spend it weaving up the first scarf on the new warp. Have I shown you the new warp by the way? It looks like this:. Anyway, as I mentioned earlier. It was my day off. And I spent most of it at the computer. My name is Ca...

The Language of Weaving. The world of the Ps. Health warning: this is not a post about textiles. It is a post about cats which, as everyone knows, is even better. What I particularly like about these two cats is the fact that they clearly see the same world in two very different ways, so I will give them each their turn. The World according to Phoebus. 4 The cat from down the road, known to the humans of this household. As “Son of Piebald” [1], is his Arch Enemy. Son of Piebald is at all ...His only weak...
pattern appearing | t'katch
https://callybooker.wordpress.com/2010/09/10/pattern-appearing
The Language of Weaving. This is the sort of pattern I mean. Ie athough the overall shape is quite simple, it took quite a lot of planning to get it set up just the way I wanted. I hope you can see the wavy line appearing. In my mind it is a river of plain weave between the huck lace areas, but perhaps it is the other way around? I have — or think I have — enough warp for two scarves in different weft colours, and then I plan to make another warp at the redder end of the serious spectrum. New game →.

Friday, 30 July 2010. I am in love with my new blue suede handbag which my mum gave me for my birthday. Isn’t it pretty? It even has a pocket in contrasting brown suede. I think she probably bought it from OneForty. Labels: i love . Wednesday, 28 July 2010. I, like many, rely on my computer for work – I work in software so it’s especially critical that I have a PC that works! Anyway, my point is for anyone out there reading this, whatever you do, back up your data! Tuesday, 27 July 2010. Today is my birt...

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. After a lovely holiday dinner party last night, with a group of women friends I've had for almost 20 years, and then a quick trip into NYC this afternoon with my husband to see an entertaining holiday musical called ' Striking 12. An original musical by an amazing jazz ensemble called Groove Lily http:/ www.groovelily.com. I'm ready for the holidays to be over and get back to some serious work. I loved ' Striking 12'. The stash is calling, but so is life, and there are still o...

Talking about Weaving: October 2010

Tuesday, October 26, 2010. THREADING PROBLEMS YET AGAIN. Posted by Peg in South Carolina. Before I started winding bobbins I decided I needed to do just a bit more testing of this warp. I wove two blocks. Whoops. Why didn’t this show up in the software? Probably I didn’t know what I was looking for. There are, yes there are, threading errors! I was glad there were only three! 2 The second error involved simply removing a heddle and removing the warp end. That solution will cause me to have to resley ...

Wednesday, April 20, 2011. THANK HEAVEN FOR DOCUMENTATION. Posted by Peg in South Carolina. And thank heaven for the wonderful search function in Windows 7 which quickly brought up my files on the acrylic baby blanket I woven several years ago for our grandson. And why should this matter? I could weave one! The baby blanket I had made provided the perfect model. Machine washable, the right grist. Perfect. So I worked out the numbers. Reflections on the Baby Blanket. Thank Heaven for Documentation.

Talking about Weaving: WEIGHTED WARP ENDS
http://talkingaboutweaving.blogspot.com/2011/06/weighted-warp-ends.html
Tuesday, June 7, 2011. I beamed on the warp this morning. This is the picture from the front of the loom showing the weighted warps. At this point I had only about six more inches to wind on. The white strings hanging from the top of the loom have loops in the bottom. Through these loops I thread my floating selvedges so that they raise and lower more easily the way I want them to. Saturday, December 18, 2010. PULLING MY HEAD OUT OF THE SAND. Posted by Peg in South Carolina. My warp still sits on the loom, waiting patiently for me to find the time(? To finish the sleying, tying on, and in general just getting it ready to be woven. I have lost interest in it. . It has been hard for me finally to say this: I have lost interest in it. . 160; I simply have neither the physical nor the mental energy left that this warp demands. Pulling My Head out of the Sand. Talking about Weaving: CONFUSED?
http://talkingaboutweaving.blogspot.com/2011/04/confused.html
Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Posted by Peg in South Carolina. I realized that those of you may be coming to my blog for the first time might be a bit confused by my last post. Here is a brief explanation. I spent months (actually, perilously close to a year) designing a silk warp for a shawl, dyeing the yarns, and getting the warp on the loom. The warp on the loom of yesterday’s post, is the warp in the waste basket. Why did it end up there? 8221; was written by Margaret. Carpenter for Talking about Weaving.

Talking about Weaving: January 2011
http://talkingaboutweaving.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Posted by Peg in South Carolina. This draft represents only a very small part of the threading. And the colors are not those I will be using. I chose them in order to see clearly what is going on. The treadling is based on overshot treadling. That is, for each given block, I simply repeat that particular treadle x times. . What I would then ordinarily do is one of two things:. But I have done something else a bit different as well. Not only are the binder shots a d...The tr...

Sunday, 19 June 2016. Youve not been around these parts in a while. Couldnt bear to open your laptop and actually face up to what youre feeling. Its been a weird few months; no doubt about that. Sunday, 13 March 2016. Body confidence is something Ive struggled with as Ive grown older. As any woman goes through their teens and into their 20s they begin to notice changes in their body. For me those changes were short legs with an ever increasing waist size and bum. Wednesday, 9 March 2016.

Thursday, 29 April 2010. Here's some old work which has nothing to do with what I'm doing now but thought it would be interesting to see how different it is compared to my work now. Here's some of my work where I used plaster and trapped my weaving inside. This work was the beginnings of my degree project, as you can see completely different to what it's like now. It's interesting how rich my work is through colour and texture in comparison with what I do now, and how neutral my palette has become. Thoug...

I should make an active attempt to be more. uhh. active here. there are lots of loved ones who i feel like i've been so disconnected with, and this is one good alley to re-establish those connections. But i think i'm also gonna weed thru my friends list and trim it up a bit. if you'd actively still like to be included, give a shout. happy to do it. And right this very minute i'm feeling a strong need to ask the world to work on clear honest communication with me. I could go for some of that. The Ailey gi...
