Theme is the basic topic or focus that acts as a foundation for the entire piece. It links all aspects of the literary work with one another and is basically the main subject. However, the subject is not the theme. The subject is some dimension of the human experience that is examined. Is it a inalienable right? Does real freedom even exist?
