The medical need in MS spasticity. Over 80% of the estimated two million MS patients worldwide suffer from some degree of spasticity. Spasticity causes pain, interferes with activities of daily life such as walking, may cause serious joint damage, and in severe cases can be completely disabling. Spasticity patients may suffer from shortening of muscles, contractures, deformed limbs, pressure sores and pain, and often require limb braces, special wheelchairs and other equipment to relieve pressure.

The company’s lead compound, VSN16R, is currently in a Phase II study to determine its efficacy in relieving spasticity in people with MS. Lead product VSN16R now in Phase II trials. VSN16R a novel orally active small molecule compound that is substantially better tolerated than existing anti-spastic agents. VSN16R does not cause the flaccidity, sedation or other cognitive side-effects that are major disadvantages of other available drugs.
