Carl Bovis Nature Photography

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Monday, August 17, 2015. Butterflies, Bees and a few birds.that's August! As birds are harder to find and photograph in Summer, I notice more nature photographers concentrate on the more visible bugs and assorted mini-beasties! Photographing small creatures with a mega zoom lens is quite a challenge, but one I relish! As a consequence they are not true 'macro' shots, for a start I have to stand well over a metre away from my subjects in order to focus on them! Above - Paint...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography: May 2015

http://www.carlbovisnaturephotography.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Sunday, 24 May 2015. Bitterns and a world of cuteness! This is the story of my week. The month of May signals baby birds galore, and nothing equals cuteness like baby waterbirds, especially Swans, Geese and Ducks! Baby Coots and Moorhens can't really be included in this cute explosion however, as you soon will see. Some of my best pictures have been from chance, sudden unexpected nature moments! Her name is Cate B...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Wednesday, 27 March 2013. Considering British Summer time is officially with us this Sunday, the weather has been cold and atrocious in the UK for the last couple of weeks! It even tried snowing in Somerset today! Luckily we haven't had any of the severe snowfall and drifts that Northern England, Scotland and Ireland have suffered. I'd never been so close to Sand Martins in my life! On the reservoir, quite close t...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Wednesday, 18 March 2015. Hare today, gone tomorrow? I am very lucky to have a job where I am regularly out in the countryside. Sometimes I'm in a town or City centre, but more often than not I'm working by fields, lakes and woods in Somerset and Dorset. To my surprise and amazement the Hare turned and started running straight towards me! I took the opportunity to click away, making the most of this rare situation!

Carl Bovis Nature Photography: July 2015

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Thursday, 30 July 2015. Little Owl, young Roe Deer and my fave July nature pics! So it's been a while since my last blog post. I always lose my photographic mojo during the Summer months, maybe it's because the light is often too harsh, or because the trees and bushes are so green and the undergrowth is so lush that a lot of the nature is hidden from view, but it's my least favourite Season to take photos. Earlier...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Hudsonian Godwit in Somerset! They don't come much rarer! So Saturday started just like so many before. Up early and off to work. I need the overtime, new cameras don't pay for themselves! Also 3 young children, a Flat Coated Retriever, Somersets oldest cat (probably! A Chameleon and 2 Ball Pythons don't pay for themselves either! We walked over the road and made our way to the scrape where ...

The Autistic Naturalist: Aug 3rd Minsmere

http://seanspetmonster.blogspot.com/2015/08/aug-3rd-minsmere_3.html

Monday, 3 August 2015. A sweltering day out at Minsmere with temperatures at around 25 °. A few painted ladies have made a long migration from Morocco to come feed from these buddleia bushes. The invasion of these lovely butterflies appears to be a small one this year, but maybe it will be next year in which we will get an invasion where fields and trees are covered in them across the country. It won't be long now I expect! The paler Spotted Redshank. Common Tern with a fish. Diving down for lunch! My CM...

The Autistic Naturalist: How To Draw: Bats

http://seanspetmonster.blogspot.com/2015/08/how-to-draw-bats.html

Saturday, 15 August 2015. How To Draw: Bats. Post has all the information you need, just replace the birds with bats. Redraw the outlines in pen and shade in the wings and tail, but be careful not go over the wing's framework or the legs. Lightly shade in the body, creating a texture of fur by making a layer of tiny lines. The head is a slightly darker shade and the ears have lightly dark centres with light lines representing blood vessels. Saturday, August 15, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wednesday, 31 December 2014. My 2014 - Review Of The Year. As 2014 comes to an end, there is no better time to revisit my best moments of the year. It has been a blast and I hope 2015 delivers the same. 65279; JANUARY. 65279;. My article in local paper. They then landed at Fen Hide, where I saw them again. This was the first time I had seen them here and it made me really pleased. Maybe they will eventually breed here next year? The Autistic Naturalist: Aug 12th Burgh Castle

http://seanspetmonster.blogspot.com/2015/08/aug-12th-burgh-castle.html

Thursday, 13 August 2015. Aug 12th Burgh Castle. The church at Burgh Castle. Last week when we were at Burgh Castle, we saw a poster on the gates of the church adjacent to the car park. It was advertising a bat watch event in the church itself. It seemed quite interesting and so Dad and I decided to go check it out. Baby Common Pipistrelle Bats. Almost time for bats! It was a great end to one of the best bat nights that I have ever been on. Leopard Slug (I think). Thursday, August 13, 2015. How To Draw: ...

Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Aug 12th Strumpshaw Fen. Male Mallard in eclipse phase. Juvenile Great Crested Grebe. Great White Egret with Grey Heron. Heron catching a Pike. I returned to Reception Hide sweating and tired from the brisk long walk back. I soon recovered and the sun was beginning to break through the clouds. It was nearing lunchtime and for one heron, it had an appetite bigger than its stomach. It hauled up a massive pike that was as big as its own head! Makes you think of where it all goes!
