Things I’ve Made. July 22, 2015. Last summer I took a Facebook break after an online posting battle with someone, whom I love very much, left me rather ashamed of myself (not ashamed of my opinions and views, but for hashing them out in such a public forum). A Few Paragraphs? Ha! – caroline.in.iowa

https://carolineiniowa.wordpress.com/2015/01/23/a-few-paragraphs-ha

Things I’ve Made. January 23, 2015. October 4, 2015. I was asked to write a few paragraphs about my first semester grad school experiences for the new cohort coming in next year. A few paragraphs turned into a lot of paragraphs. Some of this is just regurgitation of what has previously been posted, but since I’ve been so absent from writing lately I thought I would share. The craziness of those years where I actually became a grown-up settled down. We formed a routine. I had a new job in a field ...With ...

Things I’ve Made. A Month Without Facebook {and what I discovered}. August 16, 2014. August 16, 2014. The first few days were tough. It took some time on my part to stop thinking in terms of Facebook updates. Sometimes I still do, but I no longer have the desire to actually post them. I probably missed a few birthdays, but I’m sure no one noticed my lack of “happy birthday” posts on their wall. Yes, probably. But happy. Ignorance really is bliss. Things I’ve Made. So many babies, so many baby quilts. July 1, 2015. July 16, 2015. Quilt #4 is done! 5 if you count a cheater quilt.) I hope G likes it. This is the first time I hand stitched the binding. I have no preference between hand/machine in terms of looks, but hand sewing the binding was actually relaxing and therapeutic. Thinking Outside the {Facebook Status Update} Box – caroline.in.iowa

Things I’ve Made. Thinking Outside the {Facebook Status Update} Box. July 10, 2014. July 10, 2014. Today marks Day 2 of my Facebook detox (as my best friend called it this morning). Facebook detox is the perfect way to describe it. Especially after the eye-opening realization that came to me yesterday:. I never realized how much I relied on Facebook in my down time. Need a quick break from working? Waiting in line somewhere? Walking from point A to point B? Something pissed me off? Saw a good deed? I hop...

Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? Nap Time and Pound Cake. Jun 1, 2013. Like many soon-to-be new moms, I had lots of plans for my maternity leave. Days of snuggling with our little bundle, then while he napped, I would have a chance to organize the linen closet, finish painting our bathroom, put together his fabulous baby book, and most certainly prepare delicious meals and bake oodles of goodies. Yes, these 10-12 weeks would be just like a Lifetime movie. Right? My two favorite desserts with ...

Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? Working Mom: Part Deux. Jul 27, 2015. Dinnertime usually ends with some sort of food thrown at Grant. Also, food on the floor. And possibly in the fishbowl. It’s not a perfect dining experience, but we’re getting there. People will often ask me if I feel guilty, being a working mom. My response to this is often that. Moms (scratch that: ALL PARENTS) work. We just work in different capacities. A mom, I am not just. A mom I am a Christian first, and I am also a ...

Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? How Did I Get Here? Over the next 20 years, life happened…finishing college, working for Corporate America, meeting the man of my dreams, settling down, starting a family. I would sporadically write, but the material just wasn’t there. Then, in April of 2013, we had our first child, our son Miles…and guess what? THE FLOODGATES OF BLOG MATERIAL WERE UNLEASHED. The world needed another mom blogger, right? The reason I live and breathe. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? On Grief at Three. Aug 1, 2016. Many of you know that a few weeks ago, my fat, old, beloved tabby cat crossed the rainbow bridge. The loss was is very, very difficult. I adopted Pookie just two weeks after moving to this coast; I was 19 years old, on my own, and when I passed him during an adoption drive at PetsMart, I couldn’t resist. And it’s hard; it’s damn hard, processing those feelings. How long could I put it off, telling Miles where Pookie was? After b...

Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? Jan 28, 2016. A few weeks ago, we had a pretty big weekend. First, Grant slept all night. ALL NIGHT. Like, ten consecutive hours of uninterrupted sleep. Second, Grant got his first tooth. Seems counterintuitive to sleeping through the night, right? But those things happened. And third, Miles officially learned how to use the toilet full-time. That was The Trifecta. The caveats to our trifecta weekend:. Sleeping through the night. But the first tooth can also m...

I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED. Unless you’ve had two (or more, if you’re one of those crazies) young kids in daycare/preschool at the same time, you cannot fully understand or appreciate what this process entails. Live love. laugh. a lot. How Did I Get Here? Ways My Toddler Has Outsmarted Me (This Week). Jul 8, 2015. Ways My Toddler Has Outsmarted Me This Week. Like most toddlers, Miles enjoys throwing things. Preferably things that make loud noise, and that could possibly result in an injury, because it’s not fun until the newborn wakes up. Something gets a concussion. While playing with his train table, Miles began throwing the pieces across the living room (and then telling me, Oh no, Mamathe train FELL! We als...

Caroline in Hong Kong

Caroline in Hong Kong. Friday, June 20, 2008. My luggage made it! The flight from Seoul to Atlanta wasn't that bad. I loved the seats in business class because I was basically laying down flat just at an angle. I slept from 11-4:30 and then about another hour and a half between 4:30 and when I landed. Customs and immigration went well. We headed up the road to Woodstock to eat. Chick-fil-a! I've been craving Chick-fil-a since about April and was glad to eat there first! This jet lag might not be so hard.

5 Veldig klar for nytt semester. For we can not help but speak about what we have seen and heard." Acts 4:20. Sunday, September 27, 2015. To say that I felt overwhelming emotions during this dedication is probably an understatement. It was pouring rain this weekend in the slums near Cancun. I stood watching the rain fall on this well which is one of the only sources of water currently on the property. Seeing it reminded me of the concept of source - of our sources for water, for restoration, to be cleansed, renewed - of my sourc...Right...
