WHAT PROBLEM ARE YOU TRYING TO SOLVE? We have no specific major worries about our governance arrangements but as part of accepted best practice we want to carry out an annual self-review just to check that our governance activities are achieving what they should be. Governance doesn't seem to be adding much value. We feel we could be doing better. We are putting a lot of effort into governance but it seems that this just slows down decision-taking rather than really adding value to the CCG's work.

CASE STUDIES / FEEDBACK. We trialled all three tools: the Standards and Evidence tool, the Board Observation Guide and the Maturity Matrix. Whilst everyone will have their own view on what outcome measures are indicators of good governance, each of the tools provided a method for CCGs to assess their governance achievements objectively. GGI has developed a suite of diagnostic tools that CCGs can use to test whether they are achieving good governance outcomes. These tools were developed through an exhaustive consultation process with CCGs which involved developmental workshops across the country and more than 40 CCGs testing or reviewing the tools in draft.
