Lesson 110 - The thumb
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson110
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 110 - The thumb. Today's lesson turned out to be one of those "enlightened" one. You know, the ones where you literally exclaim, "OH DUH! Out loud to yourself, usually with both a sigh of huge relief and grin from ear to ear. Wish they came more often! With the recent relearning. So hello, thumb. Welcome back :}. We played through many of Feuillard's position changes before returning to Popper. For some reason, we started talking about the cello ego which meandered to Romberg.
Lesson 109 - Sevcik Exercise 5
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson109
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 109 - Sevcik Exercise 5. But anyway, we did that for a while before going back to the first variation and as always, the bow takes to the string like hot knife to butter. Easing into whole bow staccatos is possibly the most rewarding warm up exercise for the cello. Deryn plays the Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata Op. 19 :}. Do add her on:. Comments powered by Disqus. Lesson 101 & 102 - Gracie's new voice
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson101and102
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 101 and 102 - Gracie's new voice. Deryn moved since the last time I wrote something here (has it just only been a month? And her current place a tad (ALOT) closer to where I stay so no longer is there the usual long travelling time that allows me to write a blog post after each lesson. Still on the Popper piece, analyse the shifts and positions per phrase meticulously. And I mean, meticulously. My position knowledge is still too rudimentary to shift to them confidently w...Then ...
Lesson 97 - New Piece, Popper Op. 76 No. 3
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson97
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 97 - New Piece, Popper Op. 76 No. 3. Last week's double stops exercises really focused my attention on slow and steady playing. Attention levels and overall discipline of bow control and breathing were all pushed beyond the usualness of practising; all good things. We headed to Feuillard page 37 for the double stops preparatory exercises - 3 staves of deceptively simple but possible the most challenging finger acrobatics exercise I've had the pleasure of performing on the cello.
Lesson 106 - Relearning the cello
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson106
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 106 - Relearning the cello. It's 3 years now since beginning this wonderful cello adventure. How time flies! Guess I must be having fun :}. And as tradition goes, at least for me after a long plateau, I find that I'm relearning the cello from the beginning. "It doesn't take much to stop a string.". An advice from Deryn that has been said on many, numerous occasion which finally clicked at home during practise, literally today. Like a beauty mark, one could hardly make it out on ...
Lesson 99 & 100 - Popper arpeggios & positions
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson99and100
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 99 and 100 - Popper arpeggios and positions. The majority of the lesson was dissecting the Popper piece to tackle the severe intonation issues I had playing it. The theory being that familiarising myself with the arpeggios should prepare me to hear what each phrase per bar should sound like. I'm only tackling the piece up to bar 11 since the phrases repeat throughout the music and we're not going any further to the challenging thumb positions before this bit is stable. Too bad a...
Lesson 98 - Seam crack and Dominant 7ths
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson98
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 98 - Seam crack and Dominant 7ths. During the usual tuning of cellos before lesson, Deryn noticed an audible buzz accompanying the lower strings on Gracie. I just assumed it was my bad playing but upon much closer attention, Deryn found a possible crack in the seam near the neck and base. A little upsetting but things happen to old wood and this is all part and parcel of owning something vintage, I suppose! Comments powered by Disqus. Subscribe to feed (atom). This is an attempt...
Lesson 105 - New Piece, Minsky's Train Whistle
http://cello.esyou.com/blog/Lesson105
Hello Anon, Login? Lesson 105 - New Piece, Minsky's Train Whistle. Totally missed posting about the previous two lessons in May. I suppose I'm still getting used to the travel and waiting time during lessons to fully use it optimally. There is a narrow window of 5 minutes between arriving at the bus stop after a lesson and the bus turning up which seems rather consistent so this is probably the perfect moment to condense all thoughts about the lesson into a blog post. Finally, it was time for Minsky's Tr...
