Pastor Chris: May 2012
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Broken Cisterns, 3. We looked last time at one sin the LORD accuses His covenant people of committing. They worshipped false gods. This sin the LORD likens to digging cisterns for themselves. This implies willful choosing with knowledge. They knew better. The Truth had revealed Himself to them and they chose to close their eyes, hearts and worship to Him. They have FORSAKEN Him. What a pitiable exchange. The real for the fake. The replenishing for the diminishing. The p...Where hav...

Pastor Chris: January 2011
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 03, 2011. It would appear that in 2010 I took a sabbatical from blogging. I only posted 7 times in the whole year. Less than once a month.more like once every other month. I hope this year to post more often, to reflect on the happenings of my life, to dream about what could be. My wonderful family brings new joy and strength to my heart every day. My church family grows and grows closer to my heart. I need to celebrate that more. Off to a good start. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Pastor Chris: The Prayer of a Righteous Person
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-prayer-of-righteous-person.html
Friday, September 19, 2014. The Prayer of a Righteous Person. How interesting that I, along with most of Christendom, have applied this truth about prayer being powerful and effective to the accomplishing of signs and wonders. When we confess to a fellow believer, we see the sign of our forgiveness from our Heavenly Father in the face of our brother/sister. One last touchpoint can be seen between the powerful prayer and confession of sin. The person declared powerful and effective in pray is the "rig...

Pastor Chris: September 2014

Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Baptism of John and Jesus, 2. Yesterday we began a reflection. On two conjoined baptisms found in Luke/Acts. They both center around the phrase "I [John] baptize you with water. He [Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.". We concluded that John's baptism with water showed outwardly the inward change of belief and behavior affected by repentance. We also noted that Jesus participated in, practiced and proscribed this baptism with water. Peter made the connect...

Pastor Chris: Baptism of John and Jesus
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2014/09/baptism-of-john-and-jesus.html
Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Baptism of John and Jesus. Luke/Acts records two conjoined accounts of baptism. The Gospel according to Luke retells the ministry of John the Baptizer. The Acts of the Apostles recounts among others, the ministry of Peter to the household of Cornelius. The words prophetic in John and fulfilled in the mind of Peter form the nexus of these baptisms. I [John] baptize you with water. He [Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. I [John] baptize you with water. Jesus ...

Pastor Chris: May 2010
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 30, 2010. Trinity Sunday marks a shift of emphasis in the Christian calendar. Advent through Pentecost traces the life of Jesus. Today begins a season of reflecting on the teaching of Jesus and the Church. One foundational teaching of the once-for-all-times-delivered-to the-saints Faith is the Trinity - One God in three distinct, co-eternal and co-existent Persons. But Trinity becomes clear only with the Christ event. The classic passage found in the Gospels is the baptism of Jesus (God t...

Pastor Chris: April 2011
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. John records the events of the Resurrection Sunday in chapter 20 of his Gospel. Eight times he says someone saw something. Let's reflect on What They Saw. Mary saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. The situation any further. She ran in panic. Her only desire was to find Jesus and give Him a proper burial. What she saw was not enough. Looked in at the strips of linen. Was he fearful that someone might be waiting in ambush for Christ-followers? The body was not ther...

Pastor Chris: Broken Cistern, 2
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2012/05/broken-cistern-2.html
Monday, May 14, 2012. Broken Cistern, 2. Through the prophet Jeremiah, God files grevance against His special, covenant people. He delivers His breach-of-contract complaint in two-lines. "They have forsaken me, the spring of living water and they have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water" (Jeremiah 2.13 NIV.). People possess a propensity to praise. The human soul seeks something to worship. Anthropologists find fetishes, images, objects and ritual in every community inha...This ...

Pastor Chris: Broken Cisterns - 4
http://pastorchrisplace.blogspot.com/2014/09/broken-cisterns-part-3.html
Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Broken Cisterns - 4. After more than two years, we take our final look at Broken Cisterns. Jeremiah declares these broken cisterns are cracked and cannot hold water. But the verdict pronounced by the LORD indicates these cisterns were made with fatal flaws. These alternatives to the Life-giving LORD leak. They function below their design. They miss their own mark and purpose. Though made to hold run-off water, these cracked cisterns can't even do that. Both the promise of t...
