Francis Sills: Flowers
http://francissills.blogspot.com/2015/02/flowers.html
Notes from the studio. Thursday, February 19, 2015. The Winter months usually bring a temporary halt to painting outside in the landscape, even though I love the light and muted colors I see everywhere. To keep me busy, I've been working on some paintings of flowers that are around our house (courtesy of my wife, Faith Evans-Sills. Oil on paper; 12" x 16". Oil on linen; 7.5" x 10". Francis Sills: January 2015
http://francissills.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Sunday, January 4, 2015. I painted over this painting turned on it's side from a few years ago, which I was never able to resolve (the symmetry and the space never 'clicked', and the paint application got too 'finicky'):. Before I jumped into the painting, I started by sketching out a few different compositions:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Click on images to see enlarged versions. Http:/ www.francissills.com. Francis Sills: reworked self portrait
http://francissills.blogspot.com/2014/10/reworked-self-portrait.html
Notes from the studio. Wednesday, October 1, 2014. I usually don't like to paint over old paintings, mainly because some of the painting underneath can pop through in the form of ridges and edges, which can be distracting and a nuisance to paint over. This time I didn't mind so much; the previous painting created a bedrock of paint, which I was able to add to for it's current iteration. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Francis Sills: Red Bud tree
http://francissills.blogspot.com/2015/05/red-bud-tree.html
Notes from the studio. Thursday, May 14, 2015. I set out in about February, with my sketchbook to prepare a composition. I knew that I only had a small window of time to get this done, before the petals fell and the new leaves appear. Pencil on paper 9" x 12". I lightly sketched everything out and waited for the buds to appear. I didn't photograph after every session, but here are a few shots in progress:. Labels: en plein air.
