Enantioselective Epoxidation - chem346lv. Oct 29th, 2006 12:11 am. Wowwhat a way to end the last lab of chem 346. I had a feeling it would be a bit tricky since the last time I ran the silica gel column, things bogged down. But this time, everything just went bad, sort of. Much thanks to my TA, Tamas, who saved my day. I'm still a bit confused how to calculate the yield though, since just a small amount of the catalyst is needed to epoxidize the alkene. Do we assume that all of the alkene reacts?

I just recently started a new reaction which involves using MeLi. Now, MeLi is a very flammable compound and should not come into contact with air. As I was transferring MeLi into a round bottom, already under nitrogen, I could sense the nervousness of my post doc.
