Decatur purchases its power at wholesale through Burt County Public Power District (BCPPD), and Lyons is a wholesale customer of NPPD. Is the retail supplier of natural gas in Craig, Oakland, and Tekamah. Lyons distributes natural gas in Lyons. Northern Natural Gas is the transmission pipeline company for each of these communities. Natural gas is not available in Decatur. And Qwest Communications are.

Burt County is home to the Oakland Mercy Hospital. In Blair also serves Burt County. MCH is located in Blair, 17 miles south of Tekamah. They recently completed $24.5 million dollar expansion. MCH also offers a medical clinic in Tekamah. Oakland Heights, built in Oakland in 1975, has a capacity for 45 beds. It also has a 22-bed assisted living unit.
