Destination Eats: October 2013
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Destination Croatia: The Best Lunch in Opatija. Located along the Adriatic, the Istria region in Croatia is similar in climate to Northern Italy. As such, it is renowned for its wines, olive oils, seafood, and truffles. We had already sampled several truffle dishes in the region, but my brother and I had to follow our nose to that pungent, earthy scent each time. House made fuzi pasta with shaved truffles. Pasta, something of a cross between penne. Octopus goulash, polenta.

Destination Eats: October 2012
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 15, 2012. Macarons vs. Macaroons. Macaroon (above left) ≠ macaron (above right). With a fancy French guttural r. Overexaggerate the pronunciation if you must, but don't feel like you're putting on airs because you don't want to sound too pompous. Otherwise, you might end up with the wrong pastry, a disaster of far greater proportions than the harm to your ego. Besides, you're idolizing a cookie; might as well jump in feet first and go full Francophile. Links to this post.

Destination Eats: Chinese Sticky Rice 糯米飯
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2008/05/chinese-sticky-rice.html
Thursday, May 15, 2008. Chinese Sticky Rice 糯米飯. I have not been able to find very many good sticky rice (糯米飯)recipes online. This wonderful dish was a Thanksgiving staple in my house for years, our Chinese answer to traditional stuffing. For each step, I have included some interesting facts as an aside in. Here's my recipe; there are quite a few steps, but I'll try to make it as simple as I can. Inactive Prep Time: 30 mins. Active Cook Time: 40 mins. Serves 3 as a main course, 5-6 as a side. Rice is mad...

Destination Eats: Philly Cheesesteak Showdown: Geno's Steaks vs. Pat's King of Steaks
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2010/02/philly-cheesesteak-showdown-genos.html
Friday, February 19, 2010. Philly Cheesesteak Showdown: Geno's Steaks vs. Pat's King of Steaks. What better way to celebrate the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln than with a cheesesteak taste comparison? Last weekend, I traveled by bus to a very unsunny Philadelphia for the authentic experience. Makes delicious cheesesteaks that are much more accessible. Oh, and if you're in the neighborhood and not feeling like cheesesteaks (though I can't imagine why) there's a banh mi. Agreed on the ...

Destination Eats: Destination Maui: 808 Grindz Cafe
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2015/04/destination-maui-808-grindz-cafe.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Destination Maui: 808 Grindz Cafe. Time seems to run at a different pace in Hawaii. Here especially, the waitstaff were friendly and laid back, not at all perturbed by the three unbussed tables despite several waiting parties standing outside. Perhaps the slow service is a throwback, much like their website. Come for the macadamia nut pancakes. Ask for the nuts in the pancakes and on top as well. Indulge in the sweet cream mac-nilla sauce. If you're in Maui on vacation, set asi...

Friday, August 15, 2014. Destination New Haven: Evolution of Clam Pizza. Fresh tomato and white clam pizzas from Pepe's. I was recently roped into a recruiting trip to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Having never been, I did some research on the one distinctive aspect of New Haven cuisine that the area is renowned for- pizza, or "apizza" as it is sometimes referred to locally. THE ORIGINAL: FRANK PEPE PIZZERIA NAPOLETANA. THE NEW KID: BAR. Which was good enough to bring here. Links to this post.

Destination Eats: The Beef Secret's Out: Totoraku
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2008/11/totoraku-rancho-park.html
Saturday, November 8, 2008. The Beef Secret's Out: Totoraku. It may not be so secret anymore, but it surely was not my own doing. Once the reviews started appearing on Yelp, among other places, it was just a matter of time before the Teriyaki House on Pico was known by its true identity- Totoraku, the Secret Beef restaurant. This dinner had been a long planned event. I had heard rumors of Secret Beef since I started blogging months ago. However, it wasn't until I met Ryan. Ore from Potential Gold. The di...

Destination Eats: What Is "Ethnic" Food?
http://fooddestination.blogspot.com/2010/05/what-is-ethnic-food.html
Monday, May 10, 2010. What Is "Ethnic" Food? Steak vs. Fried Goat Udders - Which one seems more ethnic? What is ethnic food? Is it anything foreign? America prides itself on its cultural diversity. This melting pot of…well, melting pots, is home to almost every type of cuisine on the planet. Yet how is it that we have a limited ideal of “American” foods as burgers, pizza and hot dogs. Or maybe for the more liberal, American food is anything that is fatty, salty or too sweet. More likely, we associate Ame...
