When I was 9 years old, I felt like I was pretty big stuff if I was allowed to go look in another aisle at Hills when I was shopping with my mom. We moved that year to a much quieter street and I was now allowed to walk down the street a few houses to go play at a friend’s house. That’s as far as my independence reached or had to reach. I dreaded each and every time I had to do the mile run test in school. Every year I barely passed. Maybe some years I didn't pass. I didn't really care. I just tried to survive the dumb thing!
