Classics the Classica

http://classicallitforsexson.blogspot.com/2007/03/today-we-were-re-vivisted-notion-of.html

Wednesday, March 28, 2007. Today we were re-vivisted the notion of something that has sort of been touched on before, but not to the depth that happened today: that is, the redemptive power of Art. We- humanity- are able to whether through the most terrible things our own nature is able to offer because of the refuge of art. The argument has been prosented that this is exactly what the transformations in Ovid's. We also must pick out what we thought to be the five best lines from. View my complete profile.

Monday, April 16, 2007. Today was the concluding day for discussion of Apulies'. With great attention still being payed to the long story within the story of Cupid and Pysche. The idea has been proposed that rather then looking upon Psyche as a bimbo- which is admittedly a conclusion easily reached, with her and a great many other heroines of fairy tale and myth- , look upon her and the story in which she moves in an allegorical sense. Her name, of course, means. Read during the summer. Who duh thunk?

Classics the Classica

http://classicallitforsexson.blogspot.com/2007/03/today-i-learned-that-iris-murdoch.html

Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Today I learned that Iris Murdoch apparently loved a painting by Titian depicting the flaying of Marsyus- who challenged Apollo to a flute-playing contest and had the great misfortune of winning- , which she felt was expessive of the human condition. It would certainly seem to be a bleak one then. One better(or worse) by involving the eating of live flesh. We also have yet another way to consider tragedy; namely when the punishment is grossly disproportionate to the crime.

Classics the Classica

http://classicallitforsexson.blogspot.com/2007/04/one-thing-i-learned-today-is-that-it.html

Monday, April 02, 2007. One thing I learned today is that it was Homer who first employed the phrase "bit the dust". Wattaya know? And something succeeds at being true art(which is to say, static) when it meets three criterion: wholeness, harmony, and radiance. Posted by Kari Bowles at 1:28 PM. View my complete profile.

http://amarilynk.blogspot.com/2007/05/closing-thoughts.html

Negotiating creativity, reflection, spark, and sense, shamelessly, without any usefulness or purpose. Tuesday, May 1, 2007. I was shocked at how significant Antigone was to Western culture. I think the play made me think the most about the conflict between timelessness and the timely, and about death. I also really enjoyed Lysistrata and the Symposium. Great reading in this class!
