Caviglia's Cabinet of Curiosities: Mary Harron and American Psycho
http://cavigliascabinetofcuriosities.blogspot.com/2010/07/mary-harron-and-american-psycho.html
Friday, July 2, 2010. Mary Harron and American Psycho. Has directed three feature films in the past fifteen years or so: two were overtly feminist biopics of culturally relevant outsiders, the third was an adaptation of a novel about a (possibly) serial killing, rich, misogynistic (and fictional) investment banker. The adaptation of the novel was the only really successful film of the three, I think. I found her two biopics, I Shot Andy Warhol. And The Notorious Bettie Page. Is really lovely in it. I...

Totally Unauthorized: Two Years
http://filmhacks.blogspot.com/2006/12/two-years.html
This is what it's really like to work in the film industry. Tuesday, December 05, 2006. Things I've learned in two years of writing a blog:. No matter how clear I think I've been that most of what I write is intended to be tongue-in-cheek, someone somewhere will take it seriously, and send me an email advising me of the best way to pull my own head out of my ass. Screw that. Having my head up my ass is what keeps my spine flexible. There is always someone cleverer than me. Speaking of terrific groups of ...

Laquo; A subject speaks…. Austin Needs a Place. Austin is a Place. Posted on May 28th, 2013. I have been toiling away in the puppet mines on a show called Cruel Circus for the last little stretch, right on the heels of assaying John of Gaunt and and the Bishop of Carlisle in Richard II. We’ll have a little more on that shortly but it was a side project during that time that I want to talk about now. To read the collection on the web. For the .mobi file. For the .epub file. For the Nook or Kobo). Austin A...

Laquo; Austin is a Place. Austin Needs a Place. Posted on November 14th, 2014. Making art is a grind. As with child birth we tend to forget to the gross majority of the creation process isn’t magic, it’s a slog. So when we see an artistic birthing process we simultaneously reject it as something that never happens to us and runaway because:. We can argue whether or not the birth of a 140 seat black box. Be a revolution, but the fact is that it. But to run the first year in the black they need a bubble of...

Laquo; Share and Share alike. From the front lines – Mask Edition. Men of few affectations are the best men…. Posted on July 5th, 2009. Tonight I saw Robert Faires’ one-man presentation of Henry V. Mr Faires’ among the many bullets. On his résumé is the arts editor of the Austin Chronicle. But, as I said not my point. Railed recently against the preciousness of theatremakers (even some not named Patti Lupone) and the religion of decorum in our playhouses. While I personally would have asked for groun...

Laquo; Happy Anniversary to Us. Posted on January 4th, 2010. It seems in the aftermath of Diversity Weekend. And the subsequent release of Outrageous Fortune. That the fog of war has lifted and the folks are seeing the enormity of the problems in front of us. The problems that face theatre are insurmountable. Reflecting on it doesn’t change it. With no disrespect meant, maybe that’s what happens when you’re inside a system and see the cliffs? Theatres should be dealt with as record labels. Of course thes...

Laquo; Once More Into the Breach. Time is a blockhead. Posted on July 11th, 2012. Nothing is more certain in those pursuing any field with serious intent than that a nagging voice that lives in the back of their heads telling them over and over again what a failure they are. I asked on Twitter:. How do YOU shut up the “I’m a failure” voice? Mdash; Travis Bedard (@travisbedard) July 10, 2012. And got the requisite sort of support that social media often offers. When I’m the most successful. Pingback: 2AMt...

Laquo; All About… someone else. All About a Video. Is there a Doctor in the house? Posted on February 5th, 2013. Last week I closed a four week run of Doug Wright’s. With Austin’s Different Stages and I wanted to jot down a few things I learned that will be helpful to me going forward. Please bear with me if this makes no damn sense or is insufferably precious about acting. Eventually I settled out to an acceptable answer or two but it took much longer than it should have. I forgot that I change. That di...
