Zorrillo de tamaño grande, de color negro con una banda blanca en el dorso que va desde la cabeza hasta la cola, y puede variar un poco pero generalmente cubre el dorso. El hocico es alargado y la parte superior está desnuda, los adultos pesan entre 1 y 5 kg. Desde el sur de Estados Unidos hasta el sur de Nicaragua.
