Shooting Boards @ Cornish Workshop

http://cornishworkshop.co.uk/shootingboards.html

Or should that be shuting, shuteing, chuteing or chuting? Anyway, it's a perrenial favourite so I thought I'd stick as much info as possible in one place, just for the novelty value. If you see your board linked to here and don't want it to be, please contact me. More importantly, if you have a fine example of your own out there in the Virtual Workshop that you think deserves to be included, yell! Shooting Board Basics or It's Not Rocket Science. Extensive Shooting Board How To. From White Mountain Design.

The Newlyn Tool Chest @ Cornish Workshop

http://cornishworkshop.co.uk/toolchest.html

The Newlyn Tool Chest. Who am I anyway? I’ll admit, I always rather fancied owning a toolchest, but after buying a workbench, I felt I was pretty much obliged to make my own. I was rather looking forward to it, in fact. Then there was an ad in the local paper:. Chest of old carpenter’s tools, owned by Newlyn Shipwright, beautiful condition; offers. As you can see, the usual debris that seems to naturally gravitate towards toolboxes is all present and correct! Gradually - oh how so gradually - I'm cleanin...

Projects @ Cornish Workshop

http://cornishworkshop.co.uk/projects.html

The Newlyn Tool Chest. Who am I anyway? This page is always very much a work in progress - I hope! Check back frequently for updates; especially if the weather's been too hot or cold for the workshop. Newest stuff at the bottom. And to start, not step-by-step at all. But rather a gallery of various things I've inflicted on the world over the years. Hopefully the difference between the older ones and more recent stuff will be clearly visible. The Music Stand of Myth and Legend. Cleaning a Brace and Bits.

Musings from the Workbench: October 2013

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 28, 2013. Now you may have been wondering why I mentioned butchering tools in my previous post. About flexibility in pen nibs. This is why. You see I really don't want to go down the "Bought a tool chest, er, writing case full of fountain pens, and in another five years I'll have cleaned and restored them all and decided which ones to keep and maybe sold some of the others and then I'll get back to actually using them. But we'll focus on the 'Murrican company one, because that's the one t...

Musings from the Workbench: August 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 29, 2014. Devil in the Detail. In this brave new world where Big Brother doesn't just watch us but offers us recommendations on what to do next, it's true that my somewhat eclectic approach to Google can lead to some unusual suggestions. This recent one, though, I found just a tiny. Inevitably, aside from the "Hang on, why are you recommending this to me? Tuesday, August 26, 2014. In the name of all the gods does my scroll wheel now have to be scrolled up. Friday, August 22, 2014. For the ...

Musings from the Workbench: Bugs, Aliens, and Daleks

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014/10/bugs-aliens-and-daleks.html

Friday, October 31, 2014. Bugs, Aliens, and Daleks. You know your blog posting is sporadic when the layout of the post composition page seems to have changed every time you log in. I should put that on a t-shirt. By necessity, it'll have to be quite a large t-shirt. Going about, but then it decided it liked the amenities, so stayed around, moved in all its DVDs and toothbrush, and pretty much hasn't gone anywhere. Ho hum. And continued to so do until the end of time or when I've finished with them, which...

Musings from the Workbench: March 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2014. Yesterday was my birthday. One of those ones people insist on being "landmark" and then spending the time remarking how old you are. It had a zero in it. Alcoholic bubbles was really the only sensible way to manage the day. The vibrancy of the colours is a bit lost in this pic; haven't got to time to try again. The first photo is much more representative; that orange is intense. Monday, March 24, 2014. Ah, rare sightings - the sun shining. Oh, and me on a blog. If you dont mind me...

Musings from the Workbench: April 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 18, 2014. On Monday I shared a pic of a piston filler suffering a little seepage where it should not, and given the resulting flood of interest. Er, yes. Anyway, I thought I'd give the interweb the benefit of my experience in the fixing of Indian-made "Serwex" brand piston fillers. The interweb doesn't want it? Too bad. It's a saga, I warn you. I'll swipe the piston seal from that and away I go. Well, double darn. The piston seal on that had split as well! Was I a fountain pen killer. So, j...

Musings from the Workbench: Monday Stinks #15

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014/11/monday-stinks-15.html

Monday, November 03, 2014. In celebration of Friday's Fountain Pen Day, a brief return for Monday Stinkage. (Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the inkwell.) Evidently I still haven't got to grips with the best way to capture ink colour. Ah well. J Herbin Café des Îles. Is not a remarkable ink, but a pleasant one, and it looks great on cream paper. It seems to go well in a Bedrock Flake Edison Beaumont, currently sporting a fine nib reground by moi. To be a little italicised. Seems to be pre...

Musings from the Workbench: November 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 08, 2014. Ten years ago I was looking forward to the Axminster Show. Sigh. Good times. Mind you, back then I'd go online and be inspired to get into the workshop. These days I'm more likely to be inspired to throttle someone. So thanks for your company over the years, and may your edges remain sharp but unbloodied. ;). Friday, November 07, 2014. Fountain Pen Day 2014. I believe I've mentioned this before, but you can't do this with a ballpoint. Monday, November 03, 2014. Is not a remar...

Musings from the Workbench: May 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 21, 2014. No, it's not Monday. I do know that. However, as I left them out in the Big Ink Up before, I thought I'd toss in a one-off:. I can hear your little hearts going pitty-patter in sheer excitement. Try and contain yourselves. Even my mother, when she tried it, ended up writing Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as Russian snow, and everywhere that Mary went the KGB was sure to go. Not sure we'll ever overcome that. Thursday, May 15, 2014. Labels: my eyes my beautiful eyes.

Musings from the Workbench: September 2014

http://cornishworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 29, 2014. Events, dear boy. Events. I was all set to be a good little blogger this month. i.e. Actually posting something. Unfortunately we had a little collapsing in the garden drama, ambulance action, and hospital visiting, which resulted in the Old Man getting unexpectedly equipped with a pacemaker. Someone explain to me how its. In the meantime, ponder the wisdom (or not) of Plymouth University splashing the cash on some Makepeace chairs. Friday, September 12, 2014. I bought a tool.

TMc Woodworks: October 2015

http://tmcwoodworks.blogspot.com/2015_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 21 October 2015. Bedside tables (nightstands) - Part 13 - Lining the drawers and making drawer pulls. The customer stated that green baize was to be used to line the bottom of the drawers. So I got some self adhesive felt baize that I have used several times before and cut it to size. Peeling the release paper. The finished results are very good. I used a couple of counter sunk wood screws in the back of each drawer to act as stops. Screw into the end grain of the dovetail. The finish of Arm-R...
