Rob Jackson's Blog. Foursquare/Swarm: return of badges, and mayorships (but not yet). It’s almost exactly a year since Foursquare changed from its old form, and introduced the Swarm app for checking in. Since then both apps have evolved, but when mayorships were removed, Foursquare lost one of its best features. Last week, Swarm’s update on Android included some quite big changes. Full details are here. The local crown stickers, for the most check-ins at a location among your friends, seem to have gone, ...

Labour’s leadership election process – no lessons learned? | Rob Jackson's Blog
https://boomnet.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/labours-leadership-election-process-no-lessons-learned
Rob Jackson's Blog. Labour’s leadership election process – no lessons learned? History does seem to be repeating itself. Last night I tweeted:. 8216;Sorry @UKLabour but I fear the same mistakes are being made as in 2010. A new leader is needed asap. September is too long to wait! It all takes me back to 2010, when a similar decision was made. Then I posted my concerns here. And these concerns equally apply now. I prefer what the LibDems are doing; at least they will have a new leader in place in July!

The Labour vote in Scotland and the SNP effect | Rob Jackson's Blog

Rob Jackson's Blog. The Labour vote in Scotland and the SNP effect. With the election less than a week away, I have been thinking about what may or may not happen in Scotland regarding the Labour vote and the possibility that the SNP will take Labour seats. I say the ‘possibility’ because I don’t take opinion polls too seriously, as discussed in my last post! Academic Year ‘disorganisation’. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Academic Year ‘disorganisation’ | Rob Jackson's Blog
https://boomnet.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/academic-year-disorganisation
Rob Jackson's Blog. Academic Year ‘disorganisation’. We have a new style academic year at Keele in 2014/15. Up to Easter it felt pretty much the same as previously, but the differences began to become apparent last week. Before going any further I should say that the changes were intended to ‘improve the student experience’, and only time will tell if they have achieved that aim. Of course, we won’t know the overall effect of these changes for some time, but I’m unconvinced by them so far....You are c...

A cause close to my heart | BugJemm's Blog

Waffling about whatever takes my fancy. A cause close to my heart. This time last week I was getting ready for a trip down to London for the first Fry’s Gig ‘Unsigned Mind #1’ ( www.frysgig.com. In aid of the mental health charity Mind ( www.mind.org.uk/. After an uneventful journey on train and tube, I walked from Angel tube station up to the Old Queen’s Head, where the gig was to be held, and reflected back on one particular aspect of my life. Because I’d been bullied at school. A quick trip to Norfolk.

Rob Jackson's Blog. 30 years at Keele: May 1986 May 2016. An occasion like this deserves documenting, and in the end it rather crept up on me. I knew it was coming, but with the last 3 weeks of April being so busy, I was distracted, and in the end it was thanks to a Facebook reminder that I remembered. So, how did I, a confirmed Londoner, end up here? So what have been the highlights of the past 30 years? It was well-attended and very successful. 8211; The decade beginning in 2010 has seen me take on rol...

New Labour or Next Labour – but let’s move on! | Rob Jackson's Blog
https://boomnet.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/new-labour-or-next-labour-but-lets-move-on
Rob Jackson's Blog. New Labour or Next Labour – but let’s move on! This week we learned the timescale for the election of the new leader of the Labour Party. Nominations have to be in by late May, and then we have nearly four months before the result of the ballot is announced in late September. I think this is crazy! Comment on ‘The Brightest X-Ray Machine in the World probes Molecules’. Learning to play the ukulele! One thought on “New Labour or Next Labour – but let’s move on! Rob Jackson's Blog.

Post election thoughts and analysis | Rob Jackson's Blog
https://boomnet.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/post-election-thoughts-and-analysis
Rob Jackson's Blog. Post election thoughts and analysis. I have reblogged Angela. 8216;s post, or you can read it here. She makes some very good points, and I recommend you read it. As for my thoughts, well it was clear that Cameron played a clever trick, using the politics of fear to paint Labour as being totally dependent on the SNP, and in spite of Labour’s protests, much of the electorate were taken in by him. The European Union referendum is also cause for concern, and a concerted effort needs to be...
