We have been told that the Georgian Bay was once a mountain range equivalent to the Andes. The terrain was worn down by glaciers and is now called the Canadian Shield. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. I had ended the last blog as we were crossing the Gulf on our way to Tarpon Springs. We had a very enjoyable two day stay at Turtle Cove Marina which is a brand new facility. It was an easy walk into town and the sponge docks. Tarpon Springs is the next best thing to being in Greece and has the highest percentage of Greek-Americans in the U.S. Most of the town was converted into shops and restaurants for the tourists, and the sponges that were sold were mainly imported.

Monday, July 25, 2011. UP IN THE U.P. (Upper Peninsula). On our last night in Cheboygan, we had a terrific thunderstorm go through at midnight. Bob and I were both up checking hatches, lines and watching the sound and light show. It was really something. Unfortunately, this was during the 103rd "Chicago to Mackinac Island" sailboat race and one of the boats capsized killing two crewmembers.
