Portugal and Spain Travelogue. Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Walking the lavades of Madeira. It was like this where ever you went on the island. There are many blind curves where the driver must honk the horn and sometimes even stop and back down often only inches from a rock wall, guard-rail or truck. It didn't matter that distances were short, it took a long time to get there anyway. There is no place else in the world like Madeira with it's rugged scenery and miles of lavadas that provide spectacular hiking.
