The Cumberland Ring: North from St. Bees
http://cumberlandring.blogspot.com/2011/03/north-from-st-bees.html
This is a journal of the planning and paddling of a circumnavigation of the Lake District. The paddlers are Kate Duffus, Jim Krawiecki and Sean Jesson. Thursday, 3 March 2011. North from St. Bees. An early start was needed to catch the last of the flood, although we still ended up paddling against the ebb long before we got to Allonby. The ice on the tents was even thicker in the morning and Kate's tent still had a good amount on it when it was pitched again at the end of the day. North from St. Bees.

This is a journal of the planning and paddling of a circumnavigation of the Lake District. The paddlers are Kate Duffus, Jim Krawiecki and Sean Jesson. Monday, 28 February 2011. The River Lune in one day. Several moments of concern (no swims). 4 fishermen (2 very happy ones! With no significant rain for the last three days, the water levels in the River Lune were low. Rather than our intended start at Newbiggin-on-Lune, We launched at the begining of the classic whitewater run at Beckfoot. A while after ...

Kate's Paddling Blog: February 2015
http://katespaddlingblog.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 February 2015. Ailsa Craig, or Paddy's Milestone is a prominent lump of granite sitting about 15km west of Lendalfoot, near Girvan. What paddler could resist the draw of an island that looks so close? Laura and I set off for what we thought would be about 2 hours paddling. It was the sort of crossing where the target didn't seem to get closer at all. The bridges and walkways took us to the site of the curling stone quarry. There was plenty of evidence of curling stone cutting. Next morning ...

Kate's Paddling Blog: The Black and White Canal
http://katespaddlingblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-black-and-white-canal.html
Sunday, 13 April 2014. The Black and White Canal. The challenge seemed obvious, just paddle the whole lot in one go. South to north seemed preferable as with forecast winds of force 4-5 south westerly I thought I'd get more help than hindrance. Here's David taking that all important setting off photo. Houses in Preston backing onto the canal. Just about to leave Preston, conditions nice and calm. Now out in the countryside and unfortunately water drops on the camera. Kate's Paddling Blog: April 2013
http://katespaddlingblog.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 22 April 2013. Kefalonia day 5 in Pictures. Day 5 can be summed up pretty well in pictures. Another beautiful blue sky day and what better way to start than with a dip? That's what Mark thought anyway. Here we are getting packed up ready for another day of stunning scenary. This guy motored along, catching fish in his beautifully painted boat. After paddling round the old fort at Assos we made it into the harbour. It was a long walk from the landing to the bar. Launching required team tactics, as...

Kate's Paddling Blog: March 2013
http://katespaddlingblog.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 20 March 2013. It's March. Why is it still winter? It's another freezing cold weekend so where better to go than Anglesey. Seven well dressed paddlers assembled at Church Bay ready for a trip with the tide round Carmel head to Cemlyn and back. That was the plan. Jimski in his plastic fantastic decided to test out every little nook and cranny of the coastline. At one point he decided he didn't even need water. There were caves and arches to explore. And Claire even took a dip. Sea kayaking with...

Kate's Paddling Blog: June 2013
http://katespaddlingblog.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, 22 June 2013. Windermere Summer Solstice Race. It was supposed to be summer. It didn't feel like summer as we readied ourselves for the race- the longest lake on the longest day. The forecast was for south westerly force 4 wind all day with gusts up to force 6 and that is exactly what we got. Here I am trying not to embarass myself at before I even get to the start line. It's a wobbly boat that I've been in just four times before, and always in very calm conditions. Sunday, 9 June 2013. Here pa...
