River levels remain just below summer level for the last week of June and clear. The wind direction is variable with cool winds often coming for the south and north east making for warm and cool spells during the day. When the wind direction is favourable there is plenty of action to both dry and wets on long leaders.

Most of the various duck species on the Eden are now with broods and the first young of the Martins are out. The tides are building again this week of the 9th and hopefully may encourage a few fish in from the estuary, the conditions are very favourable but we are not seeing the numbers of salmon there should be just yet. The fishing has dramatically improved from late evening onwards, good size brown trout and sea trout three pound plus showing interest. When there are cooler periods during showers in the daytime, the fish are responding very well to both wet and dry flies. Fishing in the faster broken water is quite productive mid-day and the slower glides in the evening a better prospect. Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Fly fishing experiences with tuition and guiding for salmon and trout. Thursday, 26 June 2014. Spent some time with good friends Peter and Steve on the river this week. Both were very well looked after at the Fox and Pheasant in Armathwaite. The conditions were not easy with very low water and bright sunshine along with variable wind directions from south easterly to north easterly. Peter a dedicated dry fly advocate even caught fish while sat on a rock much to Steve's amusement! A nice brown trout.
