Sutras of a Winesoaked Buddha: March 2006
http://winesoakedbuddha.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Sutras of a Winesoaked Buddha. Dispatches from the Rucksack Revolution. Monday, March 20, 2006. Did you watch the baseball game yesterday? I asked my sports obsessed Japanese teacher referring to the quarterfinal Japan vs. Korea game. Of course. Do you know Japanese word. Uhh, yeah, sacred wind, right? Japan is very delicate country, and. Protects us. This is how we beat the Korean team.". Did you know that Japanese Emperor Prince, was in Mexico during their game against America? So desu, ne? Next up is ...

American Expat: January 2006

Monday, January 30, 2006. I, on the other hand, tried to grind a big rail and fell on my neck. I heard a popping, but it was just my upper spinal area, so it's all cool. Seriously though, I was very afraid for a few seconds, until I realized that I still had full mobility. What can I say? If you try to go big, you just might fall big. Or in my case, you just might fall big when you are trying to do absolutely nothing but go straight across a piece of metal. What is the deal? And "Maybe it's for security,...

American Expat: May 2006
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 30, 2006. This week we got the performance reports back from the students, which was rather humorous. When I was in High School and I filled out those class evaluations, I always wondered if they did anything. Now that I’m on the other side, I can safely say no they do not. My 898 percent approval rating had the highest number of returned surveys, and it was 50%. In the class I teach with Obata 14% of the students replied. That works out to three kids. The first is this. I came across th...

Sutras of a Winesoaked Buddha. Dispatches from the Rucksack Revolution. Monday, May 22, 2006. Alright so we remember Jr and Sr. Grade drifters right? Ernest (not the one scared stupid). Bob (both Dylan and Marley). Hallowed ground. Hallowed ground. I’m reluctant to do this but I’ll give it a try. Highest. You’ve transcended badassitude. Once you die everything you own is in a museum or a church. Either an astetic robes (prophets) or worn out dusty old jeans (Jack, Walt, Che). I don’t think this applies!

American Expat: February 2006
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 28, 2006. I've seen a lot of Japanese rocking out lately, and I don't mean in general (although they sometimes rock out in general), I mean with actual instruments on actual stages. I believe the rule for the concert was that the lead singer had to be female, but other than that, no holds barred. There were six or so different bands and each put on a thirty minute set. It had everything from pop to punk, and beer. Lots and lots of beer. Here is a picture of the dude rocking his face off.

American Expat: April 2006
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 28, 2006. You may remember a while ago that I wrote about trying out for (and acquiring) a part in the Toyama Charity Show. After that I didn't write anything about it. For four months. Some perceptive readers have asked me how this whole venture is going. I recently wrote an open letter to the two directors of the Charity Show that I feel adequately sums up my experiences thus far. Enjoy. Please not assign us with any more responsibility. Could it have been our girlish giggling? The fact t...

Chris vs. the arctic. Chris: 72 / the arctic: 47. Perhaps the top benefit of becoming friends with a huge group of new people is the fact that your wardrobe is instantly fresh. They've never seen any of it before! Suggested First Step: Launder that mountain of clothing in the corner. Article: "Japan's asbestos time bomb". Well, I guess I'll be holding my breath for the rest of my time here! List: My Travel Plans for the Year. This list is more for myself, but I thought you might be interested. That's rig...

American Expat: November 2005
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 28, 2005. It concerns me because it is yet another addition to the pile of mounting evidence I have accumulated that asserts that there is absolutely no rhyme or reason in the country. Case in point: the sheer number of middle aged people in this city driving around with pot-leaf air fresheners that have no idea that they are pot-leaf air fresheners. It's ludicrous. Recieve a random extra paycheck for something no doubt very ordinary, like. This last one in particular bothers me. I am no...

American Expat: September 2005
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 30, 2005. Last night I went out for a few drinks with my insurance agent and his brother. Anyway, about two beers and three or so shots of sake later the next dish comes out. It looks red and mushy, clearly a meat of some type. Ok, but what is it? I can see that, what type of meat though? You can just try it.". Ok, you know that stuff,". He says, pointing at the red mush, "its not just meat.". I ask, warily. You mean to tell me I just ate Baby Beluga? This liver, it is. Today a man name...

American Expat: June 2006
http://bbgriffith.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 30, 2006. Oh, and they’ve finally decided it was Ok to turn on the air-conditioner at work. That’s nice of them. How thoughtful. Never mind that I’ve lost four pounds of water-weight over the past two weeks. I was wondering when everyone would realize that having the windows open doesn’t do a damn thing on days when there’s. Sorry Guy, wait until June 30th, that’s the date to turn on the AC. Cold as a witches tit? Not so fast there Ace, it’s not time to turn on the heat yet. Worthless filler...
