The place where I rave and rant about all things technology. Time Machine – RHEL/CentOS/SL 6 Style. On September 27, 2011. There are lots of conflicting information on how to get your MacBook to back up to a Linux server. Here’s the canned solution for RHEL/CentOS/SL 6 users out there so they don’t have to waste too much time:. Add EPEL repo to your repo. Yum install http:/ download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm. Modify /etc/netatalk/afpd.conf to add this line. Proudly pow...

The place where I rave and rant about all things technology. Adventures in Mobile Broadband (ie. WRT54G3G with a 3G datacard). On November 15, 2009. I thought I share with the world my adventures in mobile broadband. Linksys WRT54G3G router – you won’t find one in Canada, so start your search on eBay. Don’t worry about the which network it belongs to…. 3G PC Card datacard – I decided to pick up an Option Wireless GT Ultra (GX0302) branded AT&T, but unlocked. 3 months of useless investigation. Blackberry PlayBook - my 2 day adventure - AlanLok dot Com

The place where I rave and rant about all things technology. Blackberry PlayBook – my 2 day adventure. On April 23, 2011. I gave it an honest try! This is what I said to myself when the PlayBook arrived in the house. It was yet another shinny gadget that will work its way to my laptop bag – at least that’s what I thought when I first opened it. The Wi-Fi at this point works, but flaky at best! Just kidding, I deduced to the apostrophe since the PB saw my iPhone as “Alan iPhone”). Typing – I love th...

Monday, June 05, 2006. I tip my hat to You sir. My trip to Ottawa was interesting. It had ups, like visiting my beautiful wife, and running in a race with 7000 other people. It had downs, like wondering if I need to re-think this whole running thing at 8k. And a lot of in-between, like the radio ad for the possibly worst named dealership in the country: Kanata Ford. Dispite the pain I felt, The race went fairly well. I finished in 45 (and a half) minutes, good for 365th place. Posted by bitz @ 7:16 AM.

Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Apple: popular with skeletons. Anyway, it has been way too long since my last post. I ran the St. Johns Amulance Waterloo Half Marathon. And the results are posted here. I came in 36th, with a time of 1:38:04.3. I'm really happy with that time, my goal for that race was to beat 1:45, and I did that by almost 7 minutes. Anyway, what have I been doing since that? Friday, November 24, 2006. THE BATTLE for SERENITY (or how I learned to stop worrying and love leaky pipes). So the plumber tore the wall opened and replaced the old shower unit. So he did not replace the wall. I have to say with some pride that Liz and I (I mostly under her instruction) replaced the dry wall (including cut it to size and peared holes in it for the spout and shower knob), installed it, adheased the shower plastic back onto it and cleaned it all up. That was the first small victory. Buy n...

Friday, November 03, 2006. I need to blog. Because my blog is feeling neglected. The company that I work for just got bought by a very big company. I am excited about this. Not because it means anything to my day to day work, or my compensation for said work, but for the employee discount. I'm not sure how much that discount is, or if we get access to all the products (I'm guessing probably not) but the possibilities are pretty good. I mean, there isn't much that they don't make. Monday, February 27, 2006. Posted by bitz @ 7:32 AM. Monday, February 20, 2006. A year to forget. I came in 38th overall. Recovering is a bit of a different story. My lungs and abs arent yet back to normal. So between that and the weather, I would say that I wouldn't bother with this race again next year. That is, unless I forget. Posted by bitz @ 6:32 AM. Monday, February 13, 2006. Hey, so. posts seem to be coming pretty much weekly. Or is it weakly? At least it is consistant, if not constant. Castles a...
