A dozy, scenic train ride took us from Marseille to Nice, its arguably more commercial (but equally gorgeous) cousin. Nice is a beautiful sea-side town, with December warmth and sunshine to astonish. The sun shone until it sank, boats floated on calm blue harbours, and locals defied their given stereotypes by being patient and kind.
