Great West Fell Race | Helen's running Blog

https://dartmouse.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/great-west-fell-race

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. August 1, 2009. Great West Fell Race. This was meant to be a training run, with a slightly deranged plan to cycle to the start (40 good Dartmoor miles), but a poorly Millie at home forced me to take the car and arrive instead in reasonable shape, apart from a disturbed night’s sleep. The photos on the GWFR. 1360 feet of climbing and almost all in the first mile-and-a-bit. An awesome distance athlete and tri-athlete. She hardly get...

Coast2Coast | Helen's running Blog

https://dartmouse.wordpress.com/2009/07/18/coast2coast

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. July 18, 2009. Heard this week I have a solo entry to the EnduranceLife Devon Coast2Coast. At the end of September. It’s only ten weeks to up my training miles considerably and add in lots of bike work. And this will be my first ever adventure race so I don’t know how I’ll cope with things like nutrition over the 2 days. I’m excited and daunted, and already hoping I can do better than just finishing. Laquo; Mud, sweat and tears.

Unintentional bike-run-bike | Helen's running Blog

https://dartmouse.wordpress.com/2009/07/24/unintentional-bike-run-bike

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. July 24, 2009. Many lessons were learned on Thursday:. Always take the right spare inner tube on a long ride. In this case NOT the mtb tubes. Running home in bike shoes will hurt your toenails (but would have hurt them more if the inner tube had bust at Princetown instead of Holne). During a roadside inner-tube change, discarded bic cases make useful extra tyre levers. Laquo; On the bike. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are commenting...

A week of ups and downs | Helen's running Blog

https://dartmouse.wordpress.com/2009/08/08/a-week-of-ups-and-downs

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. August 8, 2009. A week of ups and downs. Looking back towards Avon rsvr. Looking down towards Venford. On Sunday the run ended very pleasantly with omelette and chips at Holne Tea Rooms. Hub of Totnes living), on the basis that if it looked and tasted that foul it must be helping… but next time I will definitely go straight for the omelette. Laquo; Great West Fell Race. more mud, fog and stolen checkpoint | Helen's running Blog

https://dartmouse.wordpress.com/2009/07/26/more-mud-fog-and-stolen-checkpoint

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. July 26, 2009. More mud, fog and stolen checkpoint. Scarcely recovered from Friday – chopping onions still makes my fore-arms wince – I ran my first Dartmoor Runners. Race today and only added to the week’s tally of bad calls and hissy fits. Second, there was fog down to our feet. So, what, I’m meant to use a map and compass without then looking up at the landscape to see what’s REALLY over there in that direction? Laquo; Mud mud mud.

RunningSu: September 2010

http://runningsu.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 28 September 2010. Because this morning it made me feel great. Because it keeps me in touch with the seasons. Because I saw a Jay flying across the common. Because I had this interesting idea about a community group for mobile, mashups and widgets which I think will fly. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Thursday, 23 September 2010. The pic probably tells you that the Marathon du Medoc is my latest 'triumph', even if I rather wish I had made a better job of it. Edinburgh was a crap run in many ways, ...

RunningSu: May 2010

http://runningsu.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 10 May 2010. Everytime I run in France I marvel at the wonderful playful atmosphere which surrounds their races. maybe its the events I choose, but they certainly are a blast. Marathon de Blaye was no exception. I had thought about running it a few years ago, but the desire to get a reasonably priced entry to the Marathon de Medoc prompted me to take out a magnum entry so now I have a magnum ticket to run two wine marathons. And Marathon du Médoc. And was great fun! Special thanks are due to thre...

RunningSu: Travel Note - the joy and value of public spirited collaboration

http://runningsu.blogspot.com/2011/04/travel-note.html

Wednesday, 13 April 2011. Travel Note - the joy and value of public spirited collaboration. This is just a note really, I was trying to work out where exactly. The tram route in Montpellier ran. As we all know, just a map alone is often insuffienct, especially when you don't know the area too well. However, being  a curious soul,  I also found this really useful  French Routes wiki. Where people have uploaded the gps route. Here is a link to the wiki which show the  tram routes in Montpellier.

Wednesday, 14 April 2010. Measuring your progress: WAVA Age Grade Ratings. WAVA stands for World Association of Veteran Athletes. You can use your WAVA rating to give yourself a target and to calibrate your performance. It's a great way to make comparisons between runners of all ages. I follow my WAVA on Fetch currently my best score is around 70 for a cross country race - although I don't do quite so well in all races. If you register with Fetch. Over 90% - - World Class. Over 80% - - National Class.

http://runningsu.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 28 October 2010. Flying with my Brompton. How do you do it, I hear you ask. I can pack bike in the case for long haul, just removing the saddle. I pack bits and pieces in the bag, laying the pannier on the top. The case is airnimal, but I can't track it down right now. Brompton do one now, not sure of the spec, see http:/ www.foldingbikes.co.uk/brompton bags.htm. Mine is particularly fine because the case has four wheels. Thursday, October 28, 2010. RunningSu: January 2011

http://runningsu.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 1 January 2011. A Year of Running in 2010. Running in 2010 took me through at least 1200 logged miles ( and that's not counting any impromptu efforts to catch buses and trains). Running for me is about finding thinking time and finding a way that a middle aged woman can eat good food, indulge in fine wine, and still maintain a semblance of a slim(ish) fit(ish) body! Chilworth after a storm. Ashurst Run - meeting the pig. We are very lucky in Southampton to be so close to the New Forest. Thi...

Helen's running Blog. The view from the shiggy. Running, not training. August 12, 2009. Ash Hash and more. As Tuesday was the last day I could train hard and be rested for the Sticklepath, I planned a good 12 miles at a reasonable pace as well as a hash in the evening. Not knowing Ash Hash. Because I set off later than planned, I only really had time after this run to cook tea for Millie and hand her over to her dad before starting out for the hash. Hash route - or something like.
