Travel Breeds Content: December 2011
http://travelbreedscontent.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Part Travelogue, Part Creative Nonfiction! Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Tyra and I saw brochures for the outing at our hostel in western Gansu Province. The literature was picketed with phrases like “relive the mystery of the Silk Road” and “experience one thousand and one Arabian nights! My eyes widened to the size of saucers. “A camel,” I said to Tyra, beaming. “How many people can say they’ve done that? 8220;Once a foreigner asked me where he could go to the bathroom,” he recalled, repeating the ...

Travel Breeds Content: We Deal in Fragments; It’s Impossible to Get It All
http://travelbreedscontent.blogspot.com/2013/12/we-deal-in-fragments-its-impossible-to.html
Part Travelogue, Part Creative Nonfiction! We Deal in Fragments; It’s Impossible to Get It All. Sunday, December 8, 2013. 8220;Just the way he looks at you,” she told him, practically bounding in her chair. “The feeling of his eyes on you, like he’s staring directly into your soul.”. 8220;Sure,” he acquiesced, only halfheartedly, “it must be pretty incredible.”. 8220;You mean you don't feel it? 8221; she asked, as if in disbelief. 8220;Well, haven’t you ever. Just then, the professor approached the podiu...

Sometime Maybe...: "Curry Bashing"
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2009/07/curry-bashing.html
A little piece of me. Monday, July 27, 2009. Since I've been back home, I've been hearing a lot about violence against Indian students in Australia. Last year, there were a few. Of the murder of desi students in the States that I'd read about. No doubt, the incidence of violence against desis, as with all immigrants of color, and pople of color, in general, is higher than reported and known. However, the. Statistics out of Australia are pretty appalling. Per a. Which has the self-identified population of...

Sometime Maybe...: Slumdog Anxieties
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2009/02/slumdog-anxieties.html
A little piece of me. Thursday, February 19, 2009. Over the past few months. well actually about a year now. one of my first-thing-in-the-morning rituals is to read the Huffington Post. It started out because of the election frenzy, but now it's just become routine. Besides, I am trying to avoid watching too much T.V. and so the "HuffPo" is a quick and easy way of keeping in touch with what's happening in the world. Nate Silver's the genius stats dude of fivethirtyeight.com. An incredibly special, and in...

Sometime Maybe...: Burial of a Child
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2009/02/burial-of-child.html
A little piece of me. Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Burial of a Child. Below is a piece I presented in my cultural studies class today. a very overwhelming class given the brutal nature of all our presentations. I think this post is especially appropriate in light of my previous rambling one on violence. It is at this juncture, too, that the spectators’ complicity is made visible because, within systems of global capital, the degrees of separation between the infant and the spectator are not too many.

Sometime Maybe...: Talk Dirty to Me!
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2009/07/transformers-sex-talk.html
A little piece of me. Saturday, July 18, 2009. Talk Dirty to Me! I was roped into watching Transformers 2 today (and how! It really wasn't a movie I was interested in watching. It isn't that I didn't enjoy it, in a "yeah well, whatever" kind of way, but it didn't really surprise me. it was all pretty predictable stuff. (Also predictably, my mum and a friend's mum slept through much of it.). That's military sexy. And Optimus Prime = "Army of One" fantasy, perhaps? The piece by Kathleen Sullivan is called.

Sometime Maybe...: I am that bad postcolonial...
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2011/10/i-am-that-bad-postcolonial.html
A little piece of me. Thursday, October 13, 2011. I am that bad postcolonial. I have decided that Spivak's 'Can the Subaltern Speak? Is one of the most widely mis-characterised, mis-interpreted and mis-used texts out there. I constantly find myself getting into debates with folks about the productivity of this piece; and the more I argue, the more entrenched I feel in my position. Take it as you will. This is an experiment. The image, naked, a seething presence. Forced to signify… what? 8217; (1997, 19).

Sometime Maybe...: Ruck the Feegents: March 4th
http://sometimemaybe.blogspot.com/2010/02/ruck-feegents-march-4th.html
A little piece of me. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Ruck the Feegents: March 4th. Need a quick yet productive break from writing. So, here are some fliers I made for the March 4th Day of Action against budget cuts to social services, especially education. Feel free to print and distribute. More to come soon. PS Just to be clear. I did not design the images on the front of the fliers. UCSD undergrads are responsible for that amazing work. Don't want to take credit for something I didn't do. :).
