Days on the Claise: March 2015
https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 March 2015. It may be spring. But at the moment it's only spring one day at a time. We have had some lovely sunny days, and a few crisp mornings, but these have been interspersed by wet, windy and cold days. Luckily, I think countryside can look lovely, even in the middle of a squall. The original of this photo looks like this: (I can do this because I have loaded the photo to our website server, not blogger). Even better, each time you load the photo, it gets auto-awfulled - here I have down...
Days on the Claise: January 2015
https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, 31 January 2015. A Euro lurking about in the scrub. Wallaroos are macropods of a size between kangaroos and wallabies. The outback sub-species is known as the Euro. Tracks made by Euros who have come down to a pool of water to drink. You can see the three types of tracks a slow moving macropod makes - the imprint of the tail as it scrapes along the ground, the long toes of the hind feet and the tiny claw prints of the hands. Days on the Claise: June 2015
https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 June 2015. There are a couple of events/thoughts/things waiting to be written about. This is one of them. Hopefully I will get my act together and write the blog post that accompanies the photo. Links to this post. Monday, 29 June 2015. It's going to be hot this week. It will probably look like this. To all our Southern Hemisphere readers, I ain't gloating - I don't much like the heat. Links to this post. Sunday, 28 June 2015. This feral Water Buffalo Bubalus bubalis. Links to this post.
Days on the Claise: Clafoutis Bakeoff
https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/2011/06/clafoutis-bakeoff.html
Tuesday, 28 June 2011. It's probably a bit late in the season to be writing about clafoutis. My sour cherries were all picked by 5 June this year. Nevertheless, the latest summer edition of Régal ('Feast') features no less than three clafoutis. Recipes, on pages 60, 76 and a whole page article on the subject on page 114 (which I have shamelessly cribbed for most of the information in this post). Unlike the Limousin griottes. Tourangelle sour cherries are. And much the same as each other. The family class...
Days on the Claise: Biodiversity at Chaumont
https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/2011/08/biodiversity-at-chaumont.html
Wednesday, 10 August 2011. Since the 2011 Chaumont garden festiva. L theme was concerned with biodiversity, I thought I would post some pictures to show you how well they are doing. On a hot day in July there is quite a lot of wildlife other than plants to see. A male Hornet Mimic Hoverfly Volucella zonaria. In French), one of the largest hoverflies, enjoying an Echinacea purpurea. This Bank Vole Myodes glareolus. In French) was scurrying about in a rustic pavillion (below). As an excellent alternative.

The cars have gone-hooray! | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/07/30/the-cars-have-gone-hooray
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. July 30, 2015. The cars have gone-hooray! Sculptures and found their way into my workshop, but on the whole nothing was worth pinching! Now everyone to his trade, but I could not help but admire the skills of the crane operator, plucking heavy objects from difficult spots and dumping them accurately into the trailers, often very close to the power lines. He even stopped to let Kath fetch her camera and paused when she found the card was full! I can imagin...

a very grand pressigny: July 2014
http://averygrandpressigny.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
A very grand pressigny. July 25, 2014. TWO WEEKS TOO LATE. The next house we saw had nothing much to either recommend it or not. It was an ordinary bungalow in an ordinary suburb. There was nothing much wrong with it, nor anything very exciting about it. It’s the sort of bungalow my dad would like and that we might like ourselves when we’re much older and want a house that’s easy to look after and maintain. You could even walk to the shops for a baguette. It was just a few thousand euros above our price ...

a very grand pressigny: April 2015
http://averygrandpressigny.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
A very grand pressigny. April 18, 2015. As soon as the kitchen floor was finished we moved back in amongst the dust and chaos to begin the next phase, which was to board over the remaining walls and fit plumbing, gas and an electricity supply, ready for the imminent arrival of the kitchen units from the UK. At last the delivery arrived but when the lorry driver started unloading the pallets containing our beautiful brand new Magnet units I had a feeling that something was wrong and my heart sank. Insuran...

a very grand pressigny: October 2014
http://averygrandpressigny.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
A very grand pressigny. October 22, 2014. Today is a BIG DAY for Nick. One of the main criteria when looking for a bigger house in France was that it had a garden big enough to require a sit-on mower! On Monday Nick cut the grass using the ancient heap of a petrol mower left behind for us by the previous owners. It was kind of them to leave it but it was hard work to use. After an hour of heaving the thing around Nick had sore wrists, a sore back and I had sore ears! More of the same Garden. As the conve...

Chez Charnizay: Spring Intermezzo
http://chezcharnizay.blogspot.com/2015/03/spring-intermezzo.html
Life in Sud Touraine. Sunday, 8 March 2015. A brief intermezzo before we post the second part of the Sculptures in Touraine exhibition. After seemingly endless grey skies and rain we've suddenly been given some super springtime weather and for the last 3 days the temperature outside has been hovering around the 18C mark. Glorious! A slight cut above the usual stuff on offer. Snowdrops on their way out, double daffs in bud. Early daffs by the drive. On Friday Niall dusted off the two chairs and table we h...
Chez Charnizay: March 2014
http://chezcharnizay.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Life in Sud Touraine. Thursday, 27 March 2014. The land we live on is old, and there is quite a lot of evidence of very early habitation. A farming friend has a substantial collection of flints which he has acquired by simply collecting them from his fields. The castle at Le Grand Pressigny houses an impressive museum of pre-history. At Abilly there's an archeological dig museum, Archéolab. Charnizay from the dolmen parking lot. The dolmen here at Charnizay is a simple one of three very large disc-like s...
Chez Charnizay: December 2014

Life in Sud Touraine. Wednesday, 31 December 2014. White bright fireworks.jpg, wikimedia commons. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. Christmas Day dinner on Christmas Eve. Our normal Christmas tradition here has become a seafood platter on Christmas Eve and our main festive meal eaten on Christmas Day. This year we reversed the order as we went to visit Chateau Chenonceau on the 25th with friends Susan and Simon. Walking up to the approach to the chateau. Classic' view of Chenonceau in full winter sun. In Bolton...
Chez Charnizay: February 2014
http://chezcharnizay.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Life in Sud Touraine. Sunday, 23 February 2014. Our village also has a colombier. Now part of a farm, appropriately called 'Le Colombier', it lies at the end of one of the little chemins which run up the small valleys just outside the bourg. Last vestiges of the mediaeval donjon. The pigeons are long gone, the current inhabitant is a barn owl. The current owners of Le Colombier farm goats and run a lovely eco-friendly gite; you can find out more if you like here on the Gites de France. This piece of legi...

Days on the Claise
Friday, 23 March 2018. I grew up in Canberra (Australia), and in the late 1970s earned my drivers licence. This meant that (theoretically, anyway) I was free to take myself off to interesting places, something I started doing in 1980 once I had bought myself a car. The pub still looked very much like this photo from the 1960s when I started going there. When we in Australia at the end of last year we visited the South Coast and stayed with our friends Rick and Helen. The pub in December. The power was on...
