A second goal of DEEP is to chart the distribution of galaxies in space at high redshifts. As above, DEEP's probe of the distant universe can be compared to nearby data to study the time-evolution of galaxy clustering (see Figure 2).

Geometry of the Universe. Volume and luminosity versus redshift for various cosmological models, relative to a standard model with Omega = 0 and null cosmological constant. However, the issue of geometry must ultimately be addressed by observations and not theory. Thus far the majority of observational tests (most of them local) continue to support an open Universe; DEEP is an ideal experiment to tackle this question at high redshift. Independent of the geometry of the Universe.
