The hard work starts here…. So, the waiting is over and the new management team is in place. The general consensus is that the Devine and Hegarty partnership has the potential to continue the success of the 2011 season. We’ve had a mixed record when it comes to internal replacements (McLaughlin, Mahon, Dykes) and it will be interesting to see how Devine and Higgsy step up to the role, as well as trying to obliterate the long shadow that SK casts across Brandywell. So what can we expect? Defence: Greacen ...

2012 League of Ireland Presswatch #1. I’m hoping to keep an eye on the media; print, broadcast and online in 2012. From the Sunday Indo yesterday. 8220;The appointment of Michael O’Neill as manager of Northern Ireland last Wednesday bridged a 77 year gap in the relations of the IFA with the League of Ireland. That’s how long it is since the Northern bodyt last acknowledged the achievements of someone competing in the Republic of Ireland’s premier league.”. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. January 2, 2012.

Noted this historical titbit when I reading some non League UK football stuff yesterday. 8220;t would be remiss of me not to point out that the habit of letting off homemade flares, fireworks and fire crackers at matches was initiated by the away supporters of Woolwich Arsenal who worked in the Torpedo Factory in Woolwich and who hired “specials” (i.e. trains) to take them to games. Arsenal, the original ultras? Far from Ashburton Grove they were raised! April 14, 2012. You Boys in Green.

Looking back, over my shoulder. So, the dust has settled and where do we find ourselves? As John Lennon sang. New one just begun . It’s been a traumatic end of the year to be a Candystripe fans with news of player departures and then the discovery that Stephen Kenny was exiting stage left to take up the job at Shamrock Rovers. The saga rumbled on for a few days but it was finally confirmed that the manager had departed as City face into the new year in search of a new boss. Added to by some selectively p...

No bail out for City…. The news may have been dominated by the secondary bail out of the Greek government, but at another corner of Europe, the door slammed shut on help from Europe. UEFA notified the FAI that they would not be prepared to accept the club’s applicationf for a European licence to participate in the 2012/2013 competition. The club, supported by the FAI, had sought a derogation for a UEFA licence but this has been rejected. There is no doubt that events in Glasgow and the looming introducti...
