Diary of an NQT. Just another WordPress.com weblog. November 1, 2011. I have nothing to add and nothing to say, but I thought I should just drop a line as it has been months since I wrote anything. Diary of an NQT. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Next Post →. July 19, 2011. Well, the summer holidays are upon me and I still don’t have a sniff of work for September. To make matters worse, there also doesn’t seem to be any other sort of work around. I’m applying for JSA, but I don’t think I’ll get it, and I feel a bit pathetic. I was starting to believe that my application technique was seriously flawed and that I would never get a job! Seems I was wrong. Thank goodness! Diary of an NQT. Just another WordPress.com weblog. An interview at last! Now for something a little different. April 19, 2011. Did you know that for every female character in a children’s film there are three male? How about that in group scenes this ratio becomes 5 males to every female? Me neither. Well I had an inkling, but the numbers are startling. I came across this while indulging my other blogging interest, feminist blogs, in an interview with Geena Davis. What we found was that in G-rated movie...

Ranting Teacher: April 2009
http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Online ramblings since 2003. Monday, 13 April 2009. Teachers demand pay increase. I'd been waiting for some official news on this after I'd heard whispers earlier today. The BBC (amongst others) reports that the. National Union of Teachers is demanding a pay increase for teachers. Now you will have your own opinion on this, and I wouldn't have even commented on this EXCEPT that the report on the BBC site just made me feel a little bit angry. Okay, quite a lot. And it was this section in particular:.
Ranting Teacher: October 2009
http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Online ramblings since 2003. Wednesday, 14 October 2009. Canteen duty is something that can be dreaded for a number of reasons, but for me it is often the pathos of that twenty minutes. For surely there is nowhere else around the school where is it possible to observe the hard time that some children go through. The saddest type of child I see is the Little Loner. There have been so many times when I’ve wanted to match-make between lonely pupils who I think would enjoy each others’ company...Sarah Ebn...

Online ramblings since 2003. Tuesday, 30 December 2008. That was the end of term. End of term scenario 1. End of term scenario 2:. Catch a terrible cold and cough pathetically at any given opportunity, therefore giving you a perfectly good excuse not to attend the social event of the millennium and get home in time for Friday night telly instead. What chance do they have? I suspect that this kind of thing isn't unusual. In the past I've had to report on a child who wrote about being given sleeping tablet...
Student Teacher: September 2008
http://trainee-teacher.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
This is a blog I plan to keep to chart my professional year as a student teacher entering the world of secondary education. Wednesday, 17 September 2008. It all starts here. W/c 15 September 2008. The lectures begin and on the whole I'm quite impressed by what we have received. We are now teachers and no longer students, though never really felt like I was a proper student to begin with so am assuming the transition to teacher won't be so traumatic. To punch them back? And some should have been intercept...
Ranting Teacher: The Facebook Effect
http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2010/04/facebook-effect.html
Online ramblings since 2003. Saturday, 10 April 2010. Yesterday I was thinking how my online presence has changed over the last seven years since I launched "Ranting Teacher". What I didn't consider was how the changes (advances? I photographed it and bluetoothed it to the dozy student, who foolishly accepted whatever file was being sent to him. Ok, we had a little laugh about it, but it did the trick. But online, things seem to escalate. An offhand comment by somebody can be jumped upon, undefended,...

Ranting Teacher: Moral Maze
http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2009/10/moral-maze.html
Online ramblings since 2003. Sunday, 11 October 2009. Should teachers always set a moral example? This was a question posed on Twitter. On Friday evening by @schoolgate. 8211; Sarah Ebner, a journalist at the Times Online. A time-served teacher who clearly believes that “teacher” is a life-long vocation that stays with you even beyond retirement. The other thing that springs to mind are those 80s songs like Madness’s “Baggy Trousers”. So in a way, I think it’s hypocritical to now expect teachers to...

Diary of a Tour Widow
Hey hey hey.it’s been a while. I thought it would be a good time to write a quick update of some sort. I had very good intentions on catching up with y’all last weekend but it simply did not happen. And for good reasons at that. I’m trying to find the things that make me happy and challenge me. I’m trying to feel less isolated (which I’m beginning to think is part of the problem since moving to Quebec). So, do you want the good recent news or the bad recent news? Let’s get the bad out of the way first.

Just another WordPress.com site. January 30, 2012. Well I have been a good girl and have been in the gym twice in the last two days. Yesterday saw a 1.25 hour work out and me pushing myself just a little further than the last visit. Having a low boredom threshold I decided to change my routine and to take a book with me to read (not the best idea I have ever had). Started my work out with a quick random setting and a read. I loved the book I am reading ‘Why Him? Meeting with the gym whip. January 27, 2012.

Just another WordPress.com site. I acquired a greenhouse during the winter. It cost me nothing, I just had to dismantle it and take it away. I have put loads of seeds in and am hoping for an even better crop this year. I have almost finished eating last years crop out of my freezer. I have already started cutting mint to freeze or dry, depending what I plan on using it for. That time of year…. And so we seem to be rocketing towards christmas at a breakneck speed. Cold, Wet and Windy. We have to find out ...
