[ kristen ]: pimples
http://kristensbigadventures.blogspot.com/2013/02/pimples.html
My adventures, great and small. Friday, February 15. Yesterday we arrived at the NGO that we work at, and realized we'd gotten a little dirty from the red dirt on our way over. Alfred, the man who runs the grounds, led us to the kitchen and poured water over our hands as we rubbed them with soap. Me: I think I'm clean now. Alfred: (Pointing to the freckles and moles on my arm): What about those? Me: Oh, those are just part of my skin. I was born with them. They are like dots on my skin.

Note: I can't take credit for these photos- my friend, Ladina, took them. I haven't downloaded my own pictures from my memory card yet. I really like the photography, specially these ones. Nice pictures :). Provo, United States.

[ kristen ]: Istanbul (not Constantinople)
http://kristensbigadventures.blogspot.com/2013/02/istanbul-not-constantinople.html
My adventures, great and small. Thursday, February 7. Two flights and some lost luggage later, we are in ISTANBUL! Our experience in Turkey so far has consisted of some amazing views as we flew into the city (pictures to come), a long time waiting in lines at the airport and in the lost and found (they lost Jenny's suitcase, probably in Chicago), and a cab ride to our hotel. I've already started snapping pictures like a fiend, so stay tuned for more! Thu Feb 07, 12:53:00 PM 2013. Provo, United States.

[ kristen ]: international women's day
http://kristensbigadventures.blogspot.com/2013/03/international-womens-day.html
My adventures, great and small. Thursday, March 14. I am trying to soak up the time here, but it's flying too quickly. I love the African life. Just down the way from our house. In the back of pickup truck on our way to the international Women's Day celebration in Coro. It was a fun ride. The women laughed and talked and sang songs as we bumped along the dirt road. Sometimes they'd tell me to get back inside the truck bed since we were coming up on some particularly rough spots. Provo, United States.

[ kristen ]: new football friends.
http://kristensbigadventures.blogspot.com/2013/03/new-football-friends.html
My adventures, great and small. Friday, March 1. Last Saturday we went to a new area of Gulu to meet some women for the first time. As we left, there were little kids sitting outside their huts, yelling hello and waving to us. I gave my camera to Lucy, who works with the NGO here and has been showing us around and introducing us to people. Lots of the kids swarmed her, wanting to see what she was doing and what the pictures looked like. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Provo, United States. Nate and S...

My adventures, great and small. Sunday, February 10. Istanbul, Day 2. We had a wonderful second day in Istanbul, and I must say I was not at all ready to leave. I would love to go back and spend a couple of weeks exploring the city. We had some great finds, and met some fun people. One shopkeeper in particular won us over by saying, "Hello! Come to my shop, we are cheaper than WalMart! It's true. It is my way or the highway! We went to the Blue Mosque, which was absolutely breathtaking. We really enj...

[ kristen ]: chickens do not make good pets.
http://kristensbigadventures.blogspot.com/2013/02/chickens-do-not-make-good-pets.html
My adventures, great and small. Friday, February 22. Chickens do not make good pets. On Sunday afternoon, we met with some women in a rural village nearby. The women were lovely—they were so welcoming, danced some traditional dances (more on that later) just for us, and promised to teach us to dance the next time we come. Before we left, they wanted to bestow us with a welcome gift. The group chairperson came from the back of the group, walking purposefully towards us with a chicken. I felt pretty sick a...
