Urban IPM: June 2015
http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 26, 2015. My neighbor asked me why her squash seemingly died overnight. Unfortunately, I had to tell her about squash vine borers (SVB). If you grow squash in Central Texas, you are most likely familiar with this insect and it's damage. If you have not yet had the pleasure of encountering SVB, either lucky you or welcome to Texas or welcome to vegetable gardening! On another note, have you been tuning in for the All Bugs Good And Bad FREE webinar series? For the webinars that have already oc...

Urban IPM: Cicada killers
http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2015/07/cicada-killers.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. Have you seen any cicada exoskeletons (they look like Garthim. From Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal) lately? I found one near my front porch last week. This time of year, with the cicadas (and their noise) come the topic of today's post- cicada killers. These large wasps can be startling to see when they fly around trees or low over the lawn. They reach about 1.5 inches in length with dusky wings, reddish-brown thorax and a yellow and black abdomen. Posted by Wizzie Brown.

Urban IPM: April 2015
http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 17, 2015. Caterpillars- buck moth caterpillar, cankerworms and tent caterpillars. The insects seemingly have arrived in our demogarden the past week. I was out there with Master gardeners this morning and there was a lot to see.it makes me EXCITED (the Master Gardeners, not so much, as many of the insects are eating the plants they are tending so carefully). Secondly, would be the cankerworms. If you have oak trees in your area (and this is Texas, so who doesn't have oak trees, right? Buck ...

Urban IPM: August 2014
http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 22, 2014. I've been getting samples submitted where people suspect that they have Tawny crazy ants infesting their property. They report light brown ants in dense populations getting into everything. Once the samples are submitted, I discover that they are Argentine ants. So why are people mistaking Argentines for Tawnies? Argentine ants in the Urban Lab at TAMU. If you have cheese ants then your finger will smell like blue cheese. I swear! All Bugs Good and Bad Webinar Information. Https:...

Urban IPM: September 2014
http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 5, 2014. It's that time of year again. I just received my first call today. Termite season! Termites are usually a problem in the spring you say? While that is true for some types of termites, I get most calls on agricultural termites in late summer into fall. Since we've been getting sporadic rain about town the past few days, I imagine that I will be getting more questions on these in the coming days. http://urban-ipm.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 29, 2015. Flooding and fire ants. We all know that red imported fire ants live in the soil. What happens to them when we have flooding? Many people may think that they will drown in the flood water. Unfortunately this isn't true. Also be aware that fire ants may be showing up in areas that may have not had them previously or areas that were treated. Posted by Wizzie Brown. Links to this post. Fire ants after flood.
