Getting Ready for Puerto Vallarta →. White Chip Cranberry Cookies. October 22, 2014. I’m in love with fall and I don’t care who knows it! To me, fall is synonymous with baking and cooking. And enjoying apple pie-scented candles while sipping a homemade salted caramel hot chocolate. As it rains outside. We always love baking with grandma! I cha...

Maple Macaroni: Greek Layer Dip
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2015/08/greek-layer-dip.html
August 6, 2015. For way too long I thought there were two kinds of appetizers: 1. decadent, delicious ones and 2. less-than-exciting healthy ones, generally a veggie tray. And then I discovered hummus. And then. I discovered fancified hummus as inspired by 1990s Seven Layer Mexican Dip. Suddenly, there was a new category called Maybe Veggies Can Meet A Bit of Decadence. Really this is all you need to know: Hummus. Simplified Tzatziki Sauce. Cucumber. Tomato. Black Olives. AND Feta. 1 cup Greek Yogurt.

Maple Macaroni: Out-of-this-World Waffles
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2015/05/out-of-this-world-waffles.html
May 5, 2015. These gridded pastries are so light and fluffy delicious that I often travel with a waffle iron so I can share them. My brother consumes more cereal than anyone I know, so when I visit, I find it necessary to deviate from the breakfast norm, heat up the iron to fill with a flour-milk-oil combo and watch these babes rise to life. The older I get, the more I firmly I believe that. Each bite of waffle really necessitates a juicy bite of berry along side it. 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour. A fabulou...

Maple Macaroni: July 2015
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
July 26, 2015. Summer Gratitude: 2015 Edition. This season I have been grateful for. For grilled summer goodness salads, friends to enjoy them and sunsets to round out the perfection. For the height of berry season and a celebratory Amaretto-and-cream-laden trifle worth repeating every year. For composting reward system success. For the Saturday night meal for two (or three or four) I have perfected, this time in one pan to-go. For the best time in life to buy kitchen accessories for friends.

Maple Macaroni: Cajun Frittata
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2014/06/cajun-frittata.html
June 10, 2014. Some people welcome friends into their arms with heartfelt hugs. I am not one of them. I will reciprocate hugs, preferably side ones, but I might be the world's most awkward hugger. It just doesn't say love to me. Instead, when a friend is stressed, I want to love on her (or him) by preparing edible comfort. When big deal things happen in others' lives, I find myself crafting something tasty. That's how I roll. Olive oil, to taste. 1/2 large (or 1 small) sweet onion, chopped. Warm olive oi...

Maple Macaroni: Chocolate-Buttercream Cupcakes
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2013/09/chocolate-buttercream-cupcakes.html
September 9, 2013. Why even bake other kinds of cupcakes? This is what I ask myself after tasting this Best Cupcake Combo Ever this go-round. And self, I really have no good response. Cake more moist and pure chocolatey than what comes from a box, 100x more moist than my other attempts to bake cake from scratch and 100 percent without the fakey-chemically taste that comes courtesy of a box. Shaving chocolate is easy, looks fancy, and, of course, is chocolate. Adapted from Smitten Kitchen. Who got it from.

Maple Macaroni: Best-Ever Berry Vinaigrette
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2015/04/best-ever-berry-vinaigrette.html
April 27, 2015. How to make a salad taste like candy/make non-salad eaters ENJOY greens:. 1 Mix up a pourable form of blackberry-raspberry jam with a hint of tangy vinegar to coat its leaves. Go berry nutty in the topping department. I like some combo of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, toasted walnuts, sugared pecans and/or avocado. 3 Toss it all together, and you might never take your salad a savory direction again. 1/3 cup seedless blackberry jam. 1/3 cup raspberry vinegar. A fabulous mea...

Maple Macaroni: July 2014
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
July 28, 2014. Summer Gratitude: 2014 Edition. Lately I have been grateful. For excesses of food, and a family that breeds them. For heaven in the form of fruit growing in Chilton County, the wonder of a liquid that transforms into its perfect creamy complement and that not all dairy has 0 percent fat. For thoughtfulness in the form of paper and confection. Dave's Pizza, Homewood, Alabama. For a reporting job that is frequently delicious. For new beginnings that provide a good excuse to use a new grill.

Maple Macaroni: January 2015
http://maplemacaroni.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
January 2, 2015. I didnt want to do anything fancy for New Years Eve, but my pepper jelly did. . Voila, savory cheesecake. Its almost as good as the Crabmeat Cheesecake that won me over at Primeaux Cheese and Vino at The Summit (which has a talented chef who seems much older than his 23 years (yes, 23) per my interview for a profile on him for 280 Living. PS It only took me FIVE months, but I am back to blogging in 2015. I am writing this as an accountability tool going forward. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
