As you are probably well aware, the old Cricket Pavilion, built as a memorial for all those Old Dowegians who lost their lives during the First World War, is in the process of being rebuilt: in fact the Douai Park Recreation Association are hoping that it will be finished by the end of the month. St Edmund's, Douai 1818-1903. This text, courtesy of Mike Skivington. Monks not only taught in the school but also worked in England on the mission. Students who went on to the secular priesthood and the community between them produced sixteen bishops. From 1814 until 1916, with the exception of the period between 1887 and 1896, Douai monks filled the post of Bishop of Port Louis in Mauritius. The last of these was Dom Romanus Bilsborrow who then became first Archbishop of Cardiff ( pictured here.
