Lift Off Alberta: Launching Alberta’s First Cube Satellite. February 3, 2014. AlbertaSat is a group of students and faculty at the University of Alberta who are building Alberta’s first Cube Satellite, the Experimental Albertan #1 (Ex-Alta 1). This bold group of men and women will shortly be launching a 3U Cube Satellite into a low earth orbit (about 380km to 400km) in summer 2016 as part of the QB50 Mission. AlbertaSat’s Educational Outreach Program. Our Educational Outreach program offers classes in grades K-8 scientific and multidisciplinary sessions related to the Alberta Curriculum. Our sessions our completely free and run by trained members of AlbertaSat. We are currently working sessions for High Schools and for Junior High Schools as we work to expand our program. Ex Alta 1 Primary Mission Objectives. The objectives of the Ex Alta 1 Satellite are of a space engineering, science and developmental nature. Serve as a platform for the In Orbit Demonstration (IOD) of a digital fluxgate magnetometer designed at the University of Alberta. Address multi-point space plasma physics with data from the QB50 constellation using the Langmuir probe common payloads as well as the digital fluxgate magnetometer. An hour away from Brussels, Liege is the third largest city in Belgium, and the perfect location for the 9.
